The State of The One Ring. Has it Stalled?
Re: The State of The One Ring. Has it Stalled?
You have a great attitude about this Rich, especially considering how much you enjoy the game & contribute to helping us all out.
They certainly have their hands full with the multiple product lines & I'm willing to support them (despite my frustration). I guess I'll have to mull over your point about managing our expectations & try to adopt more of a be pleasantly surprised when they publish mindset.
Some of the other posts about the long wait between communications & publications struck a responsive chord in me & I guess it just felt good to vent

Re: The State of The One Ring. Has it Stalled?
I keep seeing this Dr.Who 50th anniversary thing being dropped as a culprit. Is there any proof that this is in fact the reason for the rate at which we see finished products for TOR? Or was this just a supposed circumstantial issue by another TOR fan and adopted as fact by others?Rich H wrote: That many lines is bound to mean he is spread thin, especially when they're concentrating on one line (Doctor Who - due to its 50th anniversary), so it's no wonder other products have suffered.
I honestly don't know which, so I'm asking out of genuine curiosity - not to be confrontational.
That being said - I agree that the pace at which we have seen the releases is slower than I would hope, though that isn't enough to have me up in arms about it. Much like you Rich, I have plenty to game with at this point, and your fan-based materials are great filler to make a more robust campaign with it.
If there's any bone of contention I do have (and others I presume) that elicits some measure of disappointment it's not in the pace that we have releases, it's the gravely erroneous statements of expectation as to when releases will be made available. I feel many feel let down just because of expectations that were raised via the stated intentions. Failure to meet those is understandable in any business - but gravely failing by essentially a year is rivaled only by many historical failed promises by POTUS.
And yet I still have some perspective; unlike POTUS, Cube7 doesn't work for me. So despite my disappointment I am not up in arms and intent on dragging them through the mud. I do recognize they are still a wonderful company with a wonderful product and will just find ways to remain pleased with what they have delivered thus far.

Heh, if I remember correctly Dom said I was talking rubbish when I said I'd expect the next product to be around Gen Con 2013 - I said that after the last Gen Con and by that point we had seen the main releases for the last two years in a row around Gen Con. I've given up on getting the product in the UK before the US. No matter what people post about wanting the product, the product will be done when it's ready. Nothing you can say or do will change that. So I sit and patiently wait.jamesrbrown wrote:I'm thinking Heart of the Wild will be available by GenCon in August. Everyone at Cubicle7 is probably hoping for that too. It would be nice going into a major convention to have a new product for The One Ring. So, I'm believing that we'll all be ordering within a month!
One thing's for sure: the book will be remarkable.
I do think it might be an idea to have more than one writer on the line though, especially when that writer (amazing as he is as a writer and a lovely person) gets tied up with other lines. One person can only do so much and then have to fit it in with getting it okayed all along the line. So far it's been 12 months since the last release.

sorry - double post
Re: The State of The One Ring. Has it Stalled?
Gareth has stated it's impacted their other lines and as TOR is one of these then it's logical to conclude he was including it. I certainly think it's a factor.SirKicley wrote:I keep seeing this Dr.Who 50th anniversary thing being dropped as a culprit. I agree and I think C7 have learnt from previous announcements and so remain tight-lipped nowadays.SirKicley wrote:I feel many feel let down just because of expectations that were raised via the stated intentions.
I certainly hope nobody "drags them through the mud". People are disappointed (myself included) and deal with it in different ways but I've yet to see anyone being overtly aggressive and/or nasty towards C7. I blame them for making such good products, it makes me want even more!SirKicley wrote:So despite my disappointment I am not up in arms and intent on dragging them through the mud. So what I think I hear you saying (between the lines is...) we need to hope that they make really crappy products now so that we can stop having high expectations, nor get anxiously impatient.Rich H wrote: I blame them for making such good products, it makes me want even more!
I think many of my coworkers subscribe to this same philosophy. If I stop performing well in my duties, they'll stop asking me to do more!

Sir Kicley, you said: "I think many of my coworkers subscribe to this same philosophy. If I stop performing well in my duties, they'll stop asking me to do more!"
Wait, this isn't how it's done?
Seriously though, I'm glad you asked about the reference to Doctor Who & that Rich clarified it for us - I was wondering the same thing & it does seem to impact ToR.
Timb, you said: "...if I remember correctly Dom said I was talking rubbish when I said I'd expect the next product to be around Gen Con 2013."
I recall when you said that & I hoped at the time you were wrong (if you follow what I mean ) Well, you're apparently right. I guess we're going to average no more than one or two books a year. Sigh.
