It's a neat idea and certainly thematically appropriate, but I'm not sure if it would be too overpowered, since Famous Weapons and Armour already have a number of nifty enhancements.Elfcrusher wrote:What do you all think about using one quality of a Famous Weapon or Armor to also make it a Wondrous Artefact? That is, give it a lesser or greater blessing in addition to it's combat bonuses?
For example, a weapon could combine Gleam of Terror with an Awe blessing.

I think instead of a combat bonus would be the better way to go - ie, Famous Weapons and Armour come with up to three Qualities so a Blessing could use up one of those.Elfcrusher wrote:What do you all think about using one quality of a Famous Weapon or Armor to also make it a Wondrous Artefact? I actually thought that was an option but, re-reading the rules as written, it isn't.

This would be the type of item that I would include in a game for a very specific purpose (ie the destruction of a particularly powerful enemy). In other words it would be a story element, like the object of a great quest. I wouldn't have it as part of a random treasure index from a T* Troll hoard, however.

Out of curiosity, why not? Does it strike you as more powerful than RAW?Beran wrote:Elfcrusher wrote:What do you all think about using one quality of a Famous Weapon or Armor to also make it a Wondrous Artefact? That is, give it a lesser or greater blessing in addition to it's combat bonuses?

That's how I meant it. I expressed that in the first sentence, but I guess the second sentence muddies the water.Rich H wrote:I think instead of a combat bonus would be the better way to go - ie, Famous Weapons and Armour come with up to three Qualities so a Blessing could use up one of those.Elfcrusher wrote:What do you all think about using one quality of a Famous Weapon or Armor to also make it a Wondrous Artefact? Sorry, I didn't parse the first sentence. In that case, I'd certainly be okay with a weapon having Blessings and Qualities (as long as they didn't exceed the limit of three in total). I actually think that would provide more ideas and options for them as well as even more interesting backstories.Elfcrusher wrote:That's how I meant it. Re: Wonderous Items
The idea occurred to me because I was trying to think of qualities that weren't just combat bonuses, and most of my ideas ended up being pretty similar to Wondrous Artefacts.

I totally agree with you there. Like a sword giving a bonus to Awe or a bow giving a bonus to say, Awareness. There's plenty of possibilities, and I could see what you're suggesting becoming a fan house rule, Rich.Rich H wrote:Sorry, I didn't parse the first sentence. Yes, to me on paper anyway it looks too powerful to be part of a random Troll Hoard. Now, I suppose it would be ok if we were talking an unexplored Numenorean Treasure Vault the likes of which a PC would be lucky to see once in a career. But, this is just me. I'm not saying it wouldn't be a problem in your game. Mainly because I don't the kind of games you run. But, I would advise too many of them showing up.Elfcrusher wrote:Out of curiosity, why not? Re: Wonderous Items
Yeah, agreed. I just naturally assumed that was how the RAW worked - being able to use Blessings as Qualities.Elfcrusher wrote:The idea occurred to me because I was trying to think of qualities that weren't just combat bonuses, and most of my ideas ended up being pretty similar to Wondrous Artefacts.
