Beater and Biter
Beater and Biter
Seeing as it's a Friday afternoon, I'm the only one in the office and I'm on holiday next week, I thought I'd give you all a little treat - the write-up of Glamdring, which was due to go onto the Erebor Treasure Index in Rivendell but we had to cut it for space. Plus Gandalf isn't really a PC...
Glamdring
The sister sword to Orcrist, Glamdring was similarly ornate, bearing the runes of its Elven smiths. The Goblins called it Beater and hated it even more than its twin.
Type: Sword
Craftsmanship: Elven
Banes: Orcs
Qualities:
1. Luminescence
2. Superior Keen
3. Runes of Victory

Re: Beater and Biter
Stuff like this makes me giddy.
Rignuth: Barding Wordweaver Wanderer in Southron Loremaster's game.
Amroth Ol'Hir: High Elf Vengeful Kin Slayer in Zedturtle's game.
Jakk O'Malli: Dwarven Orator Treasure-Hunter in Hermes Serpent's game.

Re: Beater and Biter
I admit it is interesting to see an artefact like Glamdring stated out like this, but I am glad that it wasn't included in the Magic section of Rivendell. I really don't like it when games include items that are owned by the main characters of the setting.
Re: Beater and Biter
I actually like to see them as it helps provide a range/gauge for the items I create myself - ie, how does this item that I'm creating here compare to the legendary "Mighty Sword of Thrax Skelton" the most powerful weapon in all known lands?Beran wrote:I really don't like it when games include items that are owned by the main characters of the setting.

Sword of a Thousand Truths ftw.
Given that Sting and Orcrist are in the book, I'm glad to see Glamdring as well.

This is great stuff. Can we request stats for other legendary items, like Aiglos, Narsil? Even though they are not technically available for use in the time period.

We can speculate on Narsil/Anduril:Artking wrote:This is great stuff. Can we request stats for other legendary items, like Aiglos, Narsil? Even though they are not technically available for use in the time period.
ANDURIL (Flame of the West)
Very bright was that sword when it was made whole again; the light of the sun shone redly in it, and the light of the moon shone cold, and its edge was hard and keen.
Type: Long Sword
Craftmanship: Dwarven
Qualities: 1. Flame of Hope; 2. Gleam of Terror; 3. Runes of Victory
Re: Beater and Biter
If they are posted like this on the forum as an official add on I'm fine with it. But, in books I find it a waste of space that could be used for an item that could actually make it into a game you are running. If I make up an item for a game it usually is special to the game so I really don't care how it stacks to other magic items out there.Rich H wrote:I actually like to see them as it helps provide a range/gauge for the items I create myself - ie, how does this item that I'm creating here compare to the legendary "Mighty Sword of Thrax Skelton" the most powerful weapon in all known lands?Beran wrote:I really don't like it when games include items that are owned by the main characters of the setting.

My take on Narsil/Anduril was Flame of Hope, Superior Keen, Superior FellThrorII wrote: We can speculate on Narsil/Anduril:

Granted, Flame of Hope and Gleam of Terror are two of the most fascinating qualities.
Re: Beater and Biter
I agree, it felt conspicuous in its absence what with the other two in there; anyway, the circle is now complete.Elfcrusher wrote:Given that Sting and Orcrist are in the book, I'm glad to see Glamdring as well.
