The One Ring Hardcover Update

Post by Jon Hodgson » Thu Aug 07, 2014 10:55 am

We'll be putting this up on the C7 blog later, as part of our general Gen Con plans but I wanted to bring it here first:
The One Ring Hardcover pre-order update

The ship carrying the One Ring hardcovers docked last week, and the shipment is now making it's way to our Atlanta warehouse. It's due to arrive just before the Gen Con weekend, mid-month, and work will begin immediately on shipping out your pre-ordered copies.

This means two things:

1: You'll be getting your copies of The One Ring Roleplaying Game very soon!

2: It also means we'll have a strictly limited stock of copies available at Gen Con for purchase by convention attendees. Gen Con is a unique event in the gaming calendar, and just like in previous years we want to have our most prestigious releases of this year at the show. Pre-ordered copies of The One Ring Roleplaying Game will already be being processed at that time, so if you are attending there will be no need for you to lug that satisfyingly heavy hardcover around the show. It will be being sent to your home whilst you enjoy Gen Con.

Of course feel free to drop by the Cubicle stand (booth number 337 – look out for the TOWER OF POWER we'll be debuting this year) and take a look at The One Ring Roleplaying Game in the flesh. Pick it up, smell it, leaf through its delightful pages. But there'll be no need to collect one from the show. Your pre-order will be on it's way.

We provisionally anticipate the US retail release of The One Ring Roleplaying Game to be the 10th of September. UK and Europe release date to follow.

Great news. Can't wait to get my scrupulously clean mitts on this book.

Most triumphant! I know it's not really anyone's fault, however, was looking at the kickstarter stuff that C7 has going and thought "Maybe wait til one of the 4 books you've already preordered from them arrives."

I'm pretty sure the teams doing the grunt work on the various projects are different people, so waiting wouldn't speed up the printer or the ship, but I'm sure one of the C7 guys can set me straight if I'm wrong. It would make sense to me for a game company to have different people working on different lines concurrently to remain commercially viable.

As Shane says, any company with multiple game lines is going to have processes in place to manage multiple projects. I suspect that there may be a big wall GANTT-type chart on Dom's wall (or on his PC) that lists all the projects, disclosed and otherwise, that they have going on with all the tasks carefully plotted and resources allocated so that the number of bottlenecks is minimised.

Now things like the printer mess up earlier this year with Darkening can't be foreseen and we had a hiccup but it didn't seen to affect other lines much if at all.

Generally speaking the biggest holdups seem to be outside C7's control. Things like approvals from the BBC and M-e E are not going to fit into the usual slot like proofing, or layout. Contract negotiations also tend to fall outside this neat project management concept especially for licensed properties like Lone Wolf or Laundry. Charlie seems to be fairly lenient about the Laundry material put out by C7 and it's relationship to his books, but then it's not like the RPG uses Bob except in the fluff and doesn't get ahead of itself especially at the rate Charlie puts out material.

I knew there was a reason to move South (and thus closer to Atlanta). Go me.

I suggest posing as a customs officer with a portable x-ray. Snag my copy while you're there.
