Another one here that likes Tactical Acumen
Second Wind is nice, but too similar to "A Hunter's Resolve" for me: it makes the virtue less far attractive
New Combat Task Ideas
Re: New Combat Task Ideas
Yeah, that Virtue is a bit naff. It needs improving. My player with a Woodman character has never given it a second look, even before I introduced Second Wind.

Re: New Combat Task Ideas
Thread necromancy!
In the absence of new official content I'm going over old homebrew content, and I thought I'd update my Combat Tasks. My goal is to have one new task for each stance, none of which directly increase damage. Open and Rearward tasks are not quite right yet...when it's hard to explain what you mean in simple language it's a sign that the rules are a bit too finicky. Also, I decided to remove Taunt: Protect Companion addresses that need well enough.
Hunker Down (Defense Stance)
You may forego your attack for this turn in order to focus entirely on defense. Use your Favored Wits as your base Parry, and in the event you are hit with a Pierce you may add your Valour to the Protection roll.
Befuddle (Open Stance)
You attempt to confuse and distract one adversary. Use either Battle or Riddle, against a TN equal to 12 plus the Attribute Level of your target. On a success the adversary is Moderately Hindered for one turn. On a great success the adversary is Severely Hindered. And on an extraordinary Success the opponent is considered to be under the effects of a Weak Spot (as per Rivendell rules), with a reduction of two. The effects last until the other companions and the adversary have each taken their next turn.
If more than one companion chooses this combat task, the TN for each is reduced by 2 for each companion participating, but only the most successful result is used. Regardless of the exact order of turns, any heroes participating in Befuddle will not benefit from the effects on their own next attack.
Reckless Charge (Forward Stance)
You attempt to fight past the adversaries engaged with you and engage with another adversary, including one engaged from range. Roll Athletics or Battle against a TN equal to 12 plus 2 for each adversary currently engaged with you.
On a success you are engaged in close combat with your target.
On a Great Success or better you may make an attack against your new target on this turn.
On a failure with an Eye of Sauron you lose your footing and spend a turn recovering, suffering the same side-effect as a Knockback (i.e., lose your next attack and can’t change stance).
Hinder (Rearward)
With a careful shot to the legs you attempt to impede your enemies’ movement, preventing them from moving quickly. Shoot as normal; on a Great Success instead of dealing extra damage your hinder your target: all Movement tests are made as if Weary. If you get an Extraordinary Success your target is severely hindered: in addition to being Weary on Movement tests, roll two Feat dice and take the worse result.
