As soon as I'm able to access my facebook (not from my stone age-dated pc...), I'll submit this question in the italian TOR group, in which Francesco admins with me. Let's see if this shadow can be lifted from our hearts!
Will report the answer here!
Cross your fingers! ;)
I hope we can get an answer. It's at least the second thread where that rule is debated.
By the way, Majestic's quotation gave me new arguments for my position, but I'll wait to see if we can get an official ruling before re-igniting the debate :)

Francesco Woodclaw Castelli
Da una passata chiacchierata con Francesco, posso confermare che l'ingombro dell'equipaggiamento da viaggio si aggiunge solo in caso di fallimento ai tiri di fatica durante il viaggio
I took a look at the italian TOR facebook and found the question. On the comments, Woodclaw commented that, from a former talk with Francesco, he had confirmed that the Travelling Gear is only added to the Fatigue Threshold when a Fatigue roll is failed.

Of course, this is not a direct confirmation by Francesco, although I give Woodclaw that much credit (and maybe more :D ).

Does this help? From page 77 of the revised book.
Gear of War
Any weapon, suit of armour, helm or shield carried by an adventurer must be individually recorded on the character sheet, along with its Encumbrance rating. Their total Encumbrance score is taken into account to find a hero’s Fatigue threshold.

It does not mention Travel Gear here, only War Gear for determining a hero's Fatigue threshold.
All heroes start their adventuring career fully equipped with all the personal items and gear they consider best suited to a life on the road. For the sake of simplicity, the game presents such possessions as a character’s travelling gear and war gear.

I made a player aid (a scratch sheet) to record all those values that could change during the course of an adventure in order to keep the actual character sheets clean and free from scribbling and the like.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/795 ... 0Sheet.pdf

In the top left corner under Endurance the first four circles are for recording:

1) War Gear Encumbrance - this is for effectively recording the initial encumbrance of a PC, like how its recording on the sample character sheets in the revised rules. So, for example, the Bride would have 14 recorded here.

2) Accumulated Travel Fatigue - this gets updated every time a character fails a fatigue test. It's increased each time by the value in (3).

3) Travel Gear Encumbrance Rating - this is the encumbrance value of the Travel Gear and varies depending on what time of year the journey is taking place.

4) Weary - gets ticked when a character is Wearied, so when travelling it's when (1) + (2) is greater than, or equal to, the character's current Endurance.

... This seems to work for my gaming group. Not saying it will for everyone but it addresses the basics without the complication of things like Treasure and the like. Keeping the Travel Fatigue separate to the initial fatigue threshold of the encumbrance of a PC's war gear allows it to be tracked separately and reduced accordingly when the character rest up. Added together (ie, 1 + 2 above) gives the players the information they need to see whether they need to cross off that Weary box or not.

I really like that idea, Rich. I'm sure they kept things to three circles (instead of four) to keep things more uniform and to present a clearer, simpler character sheet. But I think having four values there would have made things clearer for me.

On a only slightly related point, I wonder why they didn't fill in the values of the weapons and other gear for the example characters (like the Bride)? Then they wouldn't have had to cram in all the details into the lower left 'Gear' area. That way, you aren't recording the Encumbrance (for the weapons) twice (as there's a spot already for the weapons under the 'Weapon Skills' area.

On our character sheets, I've gone to listing the Travelling Gear with a bracket around it, to help everyone remember that it doesn't count towards their initial Fatigue score (but only gets added in when they fail their Fatigue tests). So in other words, down in the lower left under 'Gear' I would have them write:

Summer Travelling Gear <2>
Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).
