80 years in the future? Is your campaign set 2 or 3 years before the Quest of Erebor or are you just exaggerating a bit?

There are several explanations:
1) I said "Young Aragorn" so maybe we are playing before 2947
2) I thrust my great spear with such blinding speed that I actually dilated time in our campaign, and as a result everything now takes about 9% longer than it does for those of you with inferior spear skills.
3) It's "about 8 decades" between the Erebor quest and the end of the Third Age, and for the sake of a tongue-in-cheek post I didn't stop to use my slide rule.

Take your pick. I like #2.

Sounds like an Exalted campaign I ran a few years ago where a sword blow killed the NPC and the line of his family. Removed from time. Forever. Ah, Exalted, how I miss your crazy antics.

I'd like to interject and point out that it was me wot saved him, so it was(well, me and Eristor I s'pose, but mostly me). We used Protect Companion on young Strider. Arinbeorn just stuck his pointy stick of death into the demonic/possessed/undead/extremely ugly Troll thing. Sheesh.
