About 4 hours or so.
We're all middle-aged, so work and family means we can only dedicate one evening a week to roleplaying. Back in the days (early 80's) we would play for literally days on end. Nowadays we don't have the time or energy to pull of marathon sessions like that. So we try to squeeze as much awesome into the time we have which means there is very little dilly-dally and things move at a good pace.

Now getoffmylawn damn hobbit kids! ;)

I was really pleased that those comments got into the Revised Edition as it was something that I pushed for to be included; my opinion being that it was a pretty vital component as there could be such a large variation between session lengths and therefore XP awarded per Adventuring Phase. I was really happy when I saw it in the published edition.

And... My group plays for around 3 hours and we aim to play once per week (on Friday). Although this hasn't happened for a few months due to real life issues.

It doesn't have to be! Just convert your kids (that's what I've done!)

Thanks for pushing for that, Rich. IMHO that's one of the more important issues. If you're giving out too few XP, players can become frustrated with their growth being too slow. Too much and they swiftly become too overpowered.

For my group it vary some what. We usually meet at 13.00 on Saturdays and stop at around 18-19. But usually we get about 4-5 ours gaming and the rest is talking shit and eating :)
