Future Supplement and sourcebook ideas?
Future Supplement and sourcebook ideas?
Hey everyone I'm new to this forum but have I'm an avid Tolkien fangirl and rpg nerd so obvious have taken a great interest in The One ring RPG. What I especially like about it is that it stays true to Tolkien's work (even the noncanonical stuff works for it fits in well and I could easily mistake them for being Tolkien canonical if I hadn't known they weren't) which with Merps I found quite lacking, Magic/Magic item commonness being a main issue there (Plus it felt too DnD esque imo)
So for my first post I thought I'd start a thread to discuss idea's for future books released for The One Ring RPG.
Well we know Mirkwood will be detailed next and then Rivendell (can't wait for that one hehe). I personally would like books for the following subjects first.
-A Misty Mountain Hardcover (A massive 150+ page book that describes in detail its overall history, Locations like Moria, Goblin Town, Mt Gunabad and Khazad-dum, Misty Mountain Goblin (or orc whichever you prefer) Culture and Personalities, Dwarven Culture and personalities, New Bestiary Menaces: Goblins, Moria Orcs, Cave Trolls, Mewlips, The Watcher in the Water and of course Durin's Bane.)
-The Shire (A book on Hobbits, their culture, locations, personalities, creatures etc.)
-Bree (Akin to the Lake town book but maybe larger like 48 pg)
-Kingdom of Angmar (Now this I'd love to see a book detailing the Kingdom, its history, inhabitants, personalities etc would be grand)
What about everyone else?

Re: Future Supplement and sourcebook ideas?
I kind of want a campaign about the dwarves trying to reconquer Moria. We already know they fail eventually, but there is potential for a great campaign anyway. I'd write one, but my group has other stuff to do at the moment.

Welcome to the forums Paige.
I like your ideas (especially the Misty Mountains one). I think perhaps the remnants of Angmar could be wrapped into it as well.
I would like to see something dealing with Rhun and/or Dowinion myself (although I guess there might be licencing issues there).
Most folk are obviously going to say Rohan and Gondor. (along with the Shire).

Welcome to the forum Paige. All of the above, I think, plus Rohan and Gondor.
Don't want much really.
Just to say that most of the Bestiary entries you mention are in the core book already. Mewlips = Marsh Dwellers.

Re: Future Supplement and sourcebook ideas?
There are some great ideas on here.
I agree with the Misty Mountains/Angmar combination, & that would rock.
As already pointed out, a treatment of Moria, concerning whatever format they use as part of the above or a separate book, is almost a must
Ditto for the Bree-land. They can include adventures with Old Man Willow or his servants in the Old Forest, Barrow-wights infesting the Barrow-downs, or Ruffians & other spies infiltrating into Longbottom or Sarn Ford, to name but a few. By the time you throw in things that go bump in the night at Fornost Erain, or other critters like the Neekerbreekers in the Midgewater Marshes or a battle in the Weather Hills, you'll have quite a book. Maybe two
A book covering Isengard, Dunland, Rohan (or at least the Westfold & Saruman's betrayal & the events leading up to & including the War of the Ring), works well. I'm writing a series of adventures for all of this, involving the descendants of Freca & Wulf. There are tons of possibilities, especially now that we see what they've done with their releases to date.
The Corsairs offer so much fun that we can only hope they'll consider them. Just imagine a city filled with the dregs of every realm. It's an adventure waiting to happen.
Finally, I hope they cover at least a portion of Mordor. The area around Imlad Morgul offers tons of options, though difficult to consider your heroes survival in such dismal surroundings - even with the revised journey rules. Still, the Nazgûl (brr), Shelob, Gorbag & Shagrat, heck, even, the Mouth of Sauron challenge any company.
The point is, I so look forward to Rivendell (TBC) but also hope they continue the line beyond that book.

Re: Future Supplement and sourcebook ideas?
Individual sourcebooks that cover The Shire, Bree-land and The Grey Havens and Blue Mountains. The region of the Old Forest is slightly problematic as it could be considered appropriate to include it under either The Shire or Bree-land. I would suggest including the Old Forest as part of The Shire sourcebook wih the Barrow-downs in the book for Bree and Bree-land.
A campaign book that covers all of Northern Eriador, supported by the sourcebooks mentioned above.
I agree with the desireabiity of a Misty Mountains sourcebook covering the major Orc communities and Eagles' Eyrie. What about The Iron Hills? Or the region of Dorwinion and the Sea of Rhûn (which could also touch upon the Culture of the Easterlings inhabiting the westernmost portion of Rhûn)?
I know that folks are dying for books that cover Rohan, Gondor and Mordor; but, in the long-term, maybe we can hope for sourcebooks covering Harondor, Umbar, Forodwaith and the regions of Near Harad and Far Harad. I promise that I won't hold my breath waiting for a book that covers the Mountains of the East or the (uninhabited?) Dark Lands.

Re: Future Supplement and sourcebook ideas?
I'd like a sourcebook detailing the eastern side of Wilderland beyond Mirkwood. We have information on Laketown but I'd like to see that expanded to Dale, Erebor, the Iron Hills, and the lands encompassing the Running and Redwater Rivers.

So, essentially a sourcebook for all of Eastern Rhovanion (from the Iron Hills to the Sea of Rhûn to the eastern Eaves of Mirkwood). That sounds good to me.Rich H wrote:I'd like a sourcebook detailing the eastern side of Wilderland beyond Mirkwood. Re: Future Supplement and sourcebook ideas?
Pretty much, yeah. My only criticism with Heart of the Wild is that I wanted it to 'finish the job' so we had a setting book covering all the current TOR 'playground'. Currently, it now feels like we're 'missing bits'.Otaku-sempai wrote:So, essentially a sourcebook for all of Eastern Rhovanion (from the Iron Hills to the Sea of Rhûn). Re: Future Supplement and sourcebook ideas?
The Grey Mountains, although Heart of the Wild covers a bit of that. I want to visit all the old Dwarvish kingdoms destroyed by the dragons. Combine it with a Moria source book, and you could entitle it "Delvings of the Dwarfs" or something similar. I think I would pee my pants.
Also, a campaign following in the footsteps of the two Blue Wizards would be excellent. It would be mostly made up, of course, but I think Cubicle 7 has won my trust when it comes to making up Middle Earth lore.
