Anybody done anything interesting with Gollum?
My Darkening campaign is right around the years 2949-50 and I'd really like to use Gollum before he up and heads to Mordor in 2951.
Has anyone out there done some interesting stuff with the "Bloody Ghost" and/or Ingomer Axebreaker's bounty for his head? I've got a few ideas kicking around, but I'm curious as to others' thoughts.

I've used him for a short adventure. My group was travelling with two young hobbits, and while they were at a woodmen settlement, food disappeared during the night. Everyone suspected the young hobbits, but then things got weirder, one hobbit got kidnapped by Gollum, who wanted to learn more about dirty hobbitses and where you could find them, the group rescued the hobbit in the forest but (of course) Gollum escaped. Not the best scenario ever, but it was fun.

Francesco was keen to see some more canon characters on TOR covers, so I put him on the back cover of Heart of the Wild. Does that count?

One of my players saw him -- or maybe it was just a really messed up goblin
-- far in the distance, while leaving a small beorning hut near the mountains. Aside from that I always tried to keep y players away from him, since I don't trust some of them to leave him be.

My players came across some small animal carcasses and saw an indistinct figure slink away - someone loosed an arrow but to no avail.

I don't know, Jon. Too hairy for my liking. But if that's how you view Gollum, it's ok for me.

Huh really? I am in Finland for a year, far far far away from my books. Can someone put the picture because I don't remember this.Jon Hodgson wrote:Francesco was keen to see some more canon characters on TOR covers, so I put him on the back cover of Heart of the Wild. Does that count?

Of Finarfin's children I am the last. But my heart is still proud. What wrong did the golden house of Finarfin do that I should ask the pardon of the Valar, or be content with an isle in the sea whose native land was Aman the Blessed? Here I am mightier.

I LOVED the cover of that book when I first saw it.Jon Hodgson wrote:Francesco was keen to see some more canon characters on TOR covers, so I put him on the back cover of Heart of the Wild. Does that count?
And THEN I noticed Gollum hiding on the back, and I loved it even more. I point it out to all my customers. Love that he's so hidden in there.

Re: Anybody done anything interesting with Gollum?
I used him a few years back during a Fellowship phase. The player's were staying at the Easterly Inn and I had our Beorning awaken to some livestock sounding distressed. It was played for atmosphere and was pretty scary, and of course only at the last minute did the players realize who was out there. The characters of course, still only know that it was some strange mewling creature in the night.
But tales of the "Bloody Ghost" have my players intrigued, even if the characters don't know exactly what's up. I'm trying to devise a way to have an actual confrontation with him before he disappears for good.

Before my campaign went on a (permanent?) hiatus, I had Gollum wandering the Long Marshes looking for "fisheses". One of the characters heard him, whispering to himself, as they camped for the night and they thought they saw a willowy gangrel shape in the night mist. It was played for atmosphere and spookiness and worked really well.
