Alternative character creation

Hey guys, I know that the character creation has pre-made heroic cultures, backgrounds and callings but... is there any alternative methods? Say, a free-form point allotment where you pick everything instead of packages?

There's nothing official like that, but IIRC there's some fan made stuff with many alternate packages (which you can find here on this forum if you search). I don't think I've seen any strict point-buy systems, though.

One of the trickiest bit with that is that the cultures and their potential Virtues/Rewards tend to be well balanced. In other words, if a culture has a virtue that relies on Wits, chances are none of the available backgrounds will have exceptional Wits. So a point-buy system would have to balance those things out, otherwise there could be some major optimisation issues.

... Although I don't think some of the Distinctive Feature that can be selected actually should be as per Stormcrow's later analysis here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2434. I have made alterations in my own personal document so should really update that one linked to above!
