Because that's how the game is designed... If you're always saving Hope to spend on building beautiful birdhouses, then you lose opportunities to activate special abilities, gain AP, and interact more fully with the Shadow/Miserable/Bout of Madness mechanics.

I don't think it's a bad idea, just one that has to be carefully managed... heroes should feel a little bit of pain when they spend Hope (but not too much, because then they'll never do it... and you need them to spend Hope on occasion).
Thanks. From my groups experience, we were about 3 sessions in when we realized that we were replenishing Hope wrong and too much. After a quick adjustment, I find that the players are thinking carefully about how important the task they are trying to accomplish is before the spend any Hope.

I will have to bear this house rule in mind as it seems to be e decent narrative tool with intrinsic game benefits to boot.

In my campaign I only refresh the Fellowship Pool at narrative "high points" within the adventure rather than at the end of game sessions. It's more work for me but it is more satisfying.

I do also use house rules to allow for players to attempt 'inspiration rolls' to regain Hope as well the most recent one was last week when upon travelling to Mountain Hall and seeing the Misty Mountains up close the player of Thogrim the Dwarf requested one narrating that it was some time he had not seen Erebor and this reminded him of home and of the old kingdoms of his poeple. Thought it was a nicely expressed sentiment and allowed a roll. I also thought that if he rolled an EYE it would lend itself to gaining a temp Shadow point as he'd remember darker things as well and not just the inspiring sight of great mountains of stone and rock. So, there was a nice risk/reward outcome being expressed.
