Maps of the East

Post by Goonius » Wed Jan 07, 2015 7:09 pm

Hey, all,

I'm looking to run a campaign in the east with the blue wizards. I have been unable to locate maps for much east of Mordor with any detail. Any suggestions?

Check with Robin Smallburrow; he's into all that "off the edge of the official map (and timeline)" stuff.

The revised edition of Karen Wynn Fonstad's The Atlas of Middle-earth maps the East and the South of Middle-earth; however, not with the kind of detail that you probably want or need. She even illustrated the reportedly uninhabited Dark Land to the south and east of Middle-earth proper.

You might find the poster map of Middle-earth developed for Iron Crown's Middle-earth Role Playing (MERP) game useful, but is is very different from Tolkien's drawings that surfaced later. Portions of that map were expanded upon in various MERP suppliments.

Some of you have adapted other middle earth maps in your adventures?

If so I'd like to know how you dealt with scales or blighted area?. Because we can download lots of middle earth maps on internet but they are not prepared for the game.

I've posted snippets of other maps in my games... I've always used them as relative things, rather than absolute (the idea that the characters have access to even an inaccurate map is highly suspect).

One time, I did recreate part of the loremaster's map in Hexographer so that the players could specify their travel route by hex numbers. :)

... It'd be piss easy to get a hex mapping tool and map out Middle Earth in the style of old school BECMI D&D maps.

God, I loved those. :)

I've done maps for western Middle-earth, but not for the eastern lands. The Eriador region is a little out of date now that Rivendell has defined the hazard areas for this region, but it's still useful.

Yes, Zed, don't be a horrible tease!
