I would like the panel to consider the handout that I give to newbie players to Middle-earth - in this handout I have tried to summarise what it means to roleplay in Middle-earth.

I have kept it to two pages so it is an easy one page handout to give to players (the less information you give out the more likely it will actually be read!)

Interested in others' comments/feedback also! :D

You nailed it, Robin. BTW, I pimped out your fan modules for TOR on Threats From Gallifrey Podcast. I truly admire your work.

To really capture the feel of Tolkien, you need to have familiarity with the source material.

In light of that, here are a few questions I would like to ask the panel:
  • How often do you read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and what chapters are your favourites? Why?
  • What are some important Tolkienian themes that can be incorporated into a gaming session or campaign that can really give it a distinct Middle-earth feel?
  • How can you use the rules of the game to imitate scenes from the books? For example, how can you use the combat rules to create a battle like the Battle of Five Armies?
  • Names and place names were very important to Tolkien. How do you go about naming people and places?

Uh, oh! We've got one infected already with the dreaded "the" disease. Can somebody pull off a TN20 Healing check before this thing spreads!
Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).

Ughhh! How did I let that happen!!! I passed the Healing test and edited my post. I feel better now.

Actually, what's funny is that in my copy of The Return of the King, it actually uses "the" in Appendix B. That's probably a publisher's error (or a Tolkien error?), but it is there nonetheless.

Some great observations here and supporting documentation (Robin) that I'll certainly try and weave into my input later today. Thanks!
