Recommendations for a First Adventure

It is pretty much set up as an early adventure to be run due to the PCs journeying across Wilderland to deliver the gift and invitation to the eagles. It also uses some scenes from Tales from Wilderland (ie, there are some adventures that I and others on here weren't going to run as a whole but still thought certain encounters were fun) so I'm not sure it'd be of particular use in the way you're suggesting, although I haven't given it much thought. Sorry.

No problem, happy to help - just proceed with caution with mine. You (a) need Tales from Wilderland to use the encounters I lifted from there, (b) its based on the older ruleset so there may be some incorrect info in it, and (c) makes some assumptions and changes/uses different characters and the like as I wrote it very early in TOR's development when only the main rules and TfW had come out.

On reflection I'll be running Of Leaves and Stewed Hobbit.

A few quick questions:

1. If I give Innkeeper Brandybuck a daughter who's a young adult and made her a PC, is that going to make Tolkien canon cry?
2. Current PC lineup will include: 1. daughter Brandybuck (name TBA) 2. The Dwarf tinkerer from the Inn, who wants to help his friend. 3. A Beornling Huntress 4. A Wood Elf Hunter. 3 & 4 are friends, 1 & 2 know each other. Paths will cross and friendships made.
3. I made need a fifth PC depending upon numbers Sunday. Any recommendations on a fifth character if I needed one?
4. As this is a one-shot I may very well just make up the stats within guidelines rather than worry about 'balance' however I'll avoid a ridiculous disparity between the PCs.

Wish me luck, shall post more tangible details once I've created them.

I think it's ok if you do that, but a more interesting choice would be that of making Dinodas himself the PC!

If the player wants to play a female hobbit, just change Dinodas into the sister of Dodinas (renaming her Dinda Brandibuck?), and play the adventure from both the players' perspective and the hobbit girl's perspective: while "Dinda" is traveling back from the High Pass she is ambushed by the orcs, and she meets the other players just when they are needed!

This would of course require some (not too heavy) editing of the story, specifically playing out "Dinda" 's kidnapping after the battle, but it would be much more interesting IMHO

I have had quite some success with this adventure by neal Hyde. Rescue in the Barrow Downs. It is designed for CODA IIRC, but it is easy to adapt to TOR.

1. In the adventure there are two hobbit kids, Dando and Rodry (p.24). One (or both) can be "teenage" hobbits worried about their uncle. I don't see a problem there. Make one of them a female and you have your character.

3. A Woodman would be in line. They can travel through the Vales of the Anduin and have a reason to be at the inn.

I agree with all of the above suggestions. I'd strongly recommend against just making stats up, however. Using azrapses online tool, you can make a legal character in about five minutes. Or just steal one of mine or the iconics and change the name/backstory.
