Season of the Ring - a TOR Review Series

Post by Fire Broadside! » Mon Feb 02, 2015 12:00 pm

I haven't posted here all that much, since I still have not actually played the game (although planning for it this summer), however, I'm currently doing what I call the Season of the Ring on my blog Fire Broadside. I will be reviewing all of the The One Ring products released so far as well as some Tolkien board games.

I wrote reviews for the original rulebook(s) and the Loremaster's screen back when they were released and have since December added reviews of Rivendell, Hobbit Tales and The Battle of Five Armies to the list. Next up will be Tales from Wilderland and then The Heart of the Wild and The Darkening of Mirkwood. Of course, I'll review Ruins of the North as well when it becomes available.

Most of you probably already own and have read the books, but might still enjoy the reviews. And of course, for new players I'm hoping to provide a valuable service.

Cool, will look at these later.

I know it would help C7 if you could cut & paste these reviews and post them in places like Enworld as per this thread: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1664&start=60, and the comment by Andrew:
Andrew wrote:ENWorld has got a new review aggregator up, but a product needs 10 reviews for it to get a "certified" rating. If you have an opinion about The One Ring, go and add it! And, if you've already written a review about The One Ring anyway, go link it!

Wow, I've been roleplaying since the mid eighties and this is the first I've heard of ENWord. Weird! :D
Need to check it out. Thanks for the heads up!

The guys here at C7 would be very appreciative of any review you could post and/or link to there. We have a really active community here but I suspect that also means that the game isn't discussed as much as it could be elsewhere - which isn't great for spreading the word, etc.

This is probably a good thread to link my own review series which I am doing for GamerXP. So far, I've done:

The core book: http://www.gamer-xp.com/the-one-ring-re ... ellowship/
Tales from Wilderness: http://www.gamer-xp.com/the-one-ring-ta ... y-spiders/
The Heart of the Wild: http://www.gamer-xp.com/tor-the-heart-o ... he-anduin/

It's been very enjoyable to write these reviews since I like the game a lot and these books have all been high quality.
Read GamerXP, I write TOR reviews for them!
Read my blog, if you like post-Tolkienian Early Modern Fantasy. Which may include Lemmy.

Skimmed the Rivendell review and you might want to give it another editing pass before putting it up anywhere else. More detail later, if you like.

Rivendell only needs one more review on ENWorld and it'll (hopefully) join TOR at the top of the chart!

Just added my review for Rivendell, however I could only find three TOR products; do only the most recent releases show up?

Also I just made the connection - Ennies, EN World. Doh!

The products have to be manually submitted - I added Darkening and am working my way through the others!
