Re: Golden Geek Nomination for The One Ring
Last day to vote! If you have a boardgame geek account and haven't voted for The One Ring yet we'd really appreciate it if you would. And I'm sure Francesco would appreciate some votes for Batttle of the Five Armies, which is nominated in about 25 categories over in the board games. Largely because of the beautiful board, I'm pretty sure.

Nothing for The One Ring or C7 this year, but a hearty congratulations to Francesco and the Ares team for their nod for Battle of Five Armies in the board game awards!

DnD 5 got a lot of "prices". I really wonder the validity of this ranking...

I'm not sure what "prices" means in this context.Yepesnopes wrote:DnD 5 got a lot of "prices". I really wonder the validity of this ranking...
I nominated TOR and its supplements in every category they were eligible for, and voted for it in the Best Artwork and Presentation category, and while I'm sorry it didn't make it into the winners' circle, I don't think that fact invalidates the vote.
There's plenty of love for TOR on RPGGeek; I think the results just mean that there's a lot of worthwhile competition in the RPG market, which is (IMO) a good sign for the health of the industry as a whole. And while I wish that TOR and the new 7th edition of Call of Cthulhu had placed in this category, I'm not entirely surprised that this was the year of D&D (which returned with a strong new edition after a long absence from the market).
I can't find the exact quote now, but I believe it was Steve Jackson (the US one) who said something along the lines of "When D&D sells well, the whole RPG market benefits." D&D pulls in new players: some of those players will ultimately find other games -- including TOR -- more to their taste.

Well said, trystero. And FWIW, though I'm not a regular player of D&D, 5th Edition (or Next) is actually a pretty decent game. I prefer TOR, of course, but they're entirely different games that often represent vastly different worlds/genres.
Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).

Re: Golden Geek Nomination for The One Ring
I totally agree! I don't thing D&D 5 or any of its previous editions are good RPGs as I understand a RPG, but for sure, if DnD sells, this means more people into de hobby. My entry point into the hobby were a few games with D&D red box, so yes, I am on of thosetrystero wrote:I can't find the exact quote now, but I believe it was Steve Jackson (the US one) who said something along the lines of "When D&D sells well, the whole RPG market benefits."
