Black & White Map

Post by zedturtle » Sun Feb 22, 2015 10:33 pm

So I've been thinking about doing some maps for a different project, and I really needed a better map for Theft and Dead of Winter, so I've been playing around with doing a map that has a better 1:1 correspondence with the official C7 map but done in my 'new' B&W style.

Here's step 1, the map background itself without any political/manmade markers on it at all...

Alright, the map cropped down a bit and markers placed down. I might have to violate my plans and turn this into a two colour map in order to make this more legible:

That's looking really good. What did you draw it with?
Will this be something your players get to see or just for LM?

Loving these maps, Jacob! Really great to see.

It amazes me how much time you spend on TOR, I've really wanted to do some maps like this for quite some time but haven't been able to move beyond the preliminary stages, although your style is similar to mine, so I'm a bit jealous of what you've done so far!

Pigma technical markers, mostly .005, .01 and .08 (with some less-than-successful experimentation with .02 in certain parts of the Misty Mountains); then labelling done in Adobe Illustrator.

Yeah, I actually will probably produce two versions of the map, one with common place names enabled (but no special places), and one with all the places indicated.

Yeah, I kind of hinted at in the first post, my first reason for doing this was actually to practise for doing something non-TOR.

As to time spent, there's a reason for me to be keeping myself distracted these days and I figure I might as well try to do something worth sharing with others with that time and effort.

Beautiful map. The location of Viglund's House is handy as my players want to go there next and free the slaves.

It's very much appreciated and I'm sure by more than those that just post in this thread. If you do get these donw and shared, you'll be saving me a lot of effort and time.

I'm trying to figure out the logistics but my plan is to do all of the areas that we have maps for.

Cool. Be aware that this is pure speculation on my part, I figure that Viglund would want to be close to the North Ford in order to control traffic across there.
