When you spend Hope to utilise Flame of Hope (that makes the Rally action include your Valour as a bonus to recovered endurance); does that count as spending hope to aid your Focus, as it gets the whole group? Even if they are/are not injured?
I would be inclined to say that as it is not specific to your Focus'd companion, then no. If however they were the only one injured. Then yes.
EDIT - oh the spelling mistakes are forever in the quote below!

Oh, juicy question. In other words, do you have to mechanically aid your Focus, or can you narratively aid your Focus?artaxerxes wrote:If you spend Hope to utilise Flame of Hope, to make rally inlcude your Valour. Does that count as spending hope to aid your Focus? Even if they are/are not injured?
I won't claim to have the definitive answer, but it's a great question.

Re: Battle Dice
I'd say you have to be providing an attribute bonus to an action that helps your focus. Attacking works if you're attacking an enemy that's either attacked them last round or will attack them shortly. Rally Comrades works because they get end back. Armor tests work only when using the protect ally action.
Hunting probably works because your Focus has to eat too. Healing works if you're binding his wounds.
Social skills work when you use them to get something for your friend, or to spare him from harm.
Craft works if you're making something for his use.
While you could use it for Insight, Lore, or Battle bonus dice, I'd then rule you have to give at least one die away to him immediately.

Re: Battle Dice
I'd agree with this ruling. The usage, and regain, of hope has to meet the following:artaxerxes wrote:I would be inclined to say that as it is not specific to your Focus'd companion, then no.
... an action that can be considered to directly protect or favour his Fellowship focus and succeeds
It has to directly protect or directly favour your fellowship focus. Actions that aren't focussed, if you'll pardon the pun, directly on your fellowship focus aren't applicable and I'd reject them as LM.

RE: Flame of Hope (which I can't find in my books), adding Valour is not invoking an Attribute bonus so I would say NO you do not get an instant rebate on the Hope point.
The rules do not draw any distinction however between mechanical and narrative assistance to the Fellowship Focus, they just say "directly protect or favor", so narrative assistance would count, as long as an Attribute bonus was invoked and the action was successful.
