Oh, that's why the young hobbits that Gandalf stirrs up and travel to the west "to see the Sea" never come back to The Shire. Bad, bad Círdan... That's the price Gandalf has to pay for holding Círdan's Ring of Fire!Rich H wrote:It's actually fake. Yarp. ...and..."For the Elves of the High Kindred had not yet forsaken Middle-earth, and they dwelt still at that time at the Grey Havens away to the west, and in other places within reach of the Shire. [...] Indeed, few Hobbits had ever seen or sailed upon the Sea, and fewer still had ever returned to report it. [...] And as the days of the Shire lengthened they spoke less and less with the Elves, and grew afraid of them, and distrustful of those that had dealings with them; and the Sea became a word of fear among them, and a token of death, and they turned their faces away from the hills in the west"

Poor Gandalf, enslaved by Círdan to lure the unconscious Hobbits with his fire-works into the bearded elf's den. A "real business [...] far more difficult and dangerous", indeed.[...] the old man was Gandalf the Wizard, whose fame in the Shire was due mainly to his skill with fires, smokes, and lights. His real business was far more difficult and dangerous, but the Shire-folk knew nothing about it. To them he was just one of the ‘attractions’ at the Party.

Sad people, very sad. Cirdan would never shave hobbitses feet I'm sure.
Anyway, all the next book talk got me thinking. everyone talking about the rest of north west Middle Earth for the next source book but I say what about a Gondor Source book?
Surely the bulwark of the west and chiefest of he who shall not be named foes deserve a bit of loving no?

Oh, common sense tells me that a Gondor sourcebook will probably be announced before the end of this year (or not long afterward). I just hope that the coverage is more complete than Rivendell's coverage of Eriador. I would want it to range from North Ithilien to the west end of the White Mountains including the land of Drúwaith Iaur (unless another book is going to cover Old Púkel-land along with Enedwaith, Lindon and Western Eriador).Southby-Taylyour wrote:Anyway, all the next book talk got me thinking. everyone talking about the rest of north west Middle Earth for the next source book but I say what about a Gondor Source book?

Speaking of Western Eriador and Lindon, since the general consensus seems to be that there is less potential for adventure in this region, does it seem likely that it might be covered in a slimmer softcover volume like the Lake-town book that accompanied the Loremaster's Screen? Or if not the whole region (that's a lot of ground), perhaps just the Shire and/or the Grey Havens? Personally, I am for a comprehensive hardcover including all of the remaining western lands.
I wonder if we need to start a new thread for speculating on unannounced future releases?

Yes, we need it. I want to talk about the Mass Battle rules for the Gondor supplement, and the Sea Travels and Sea Battles rules for the Lindon-Enedwaith-Umbar one. Ahoy, mates! ...and a bottle of rum!Otaku-sempai wrote: I wonder if we need to start a new thread for speculating on unannounced future releases?
