I know, right? I can't wait to read about...say, mounted combat, and then slap my forehead and say, "My god, I never would have thought of that. Genius."buddhax wrote:This cover is amazing but was is more amazing for me is to know all the thinking each creative decision has. I have to say I don't think it will be a LotR theme RPG as good as this again in a looong long time if ever. Thanks, Jon and thanks Cubicle7 developer team for this gift to us: fans and players.

Re: Horse-lords of Rohan Preview - Cover!
I don't know if I ever mentioned it here, but I almost turned down the job of producing illustrations for The One Ring. I like Tolkien too much, LOTR and The Hobbit have played too important a part of my life to risk messing it up, and to risk the slings and arrows of a passionate fan base.
I'm glad I chose to grasp the nettle though. And if you're going to do it, you might as well really overthink every part of it.

I think I speak for many when I say I'm sure glad you decided to "grasp that nettle", Jon!
I'm very particular about art; it's honestly part of why I never picked up MERP (though some of the McBride covers were beautiful).
Your stuff is not only gorgeous, but very much matches the 'tone' of Tolkien's work, and is just so evocative and fits Middle-earth so well! So very, very glad you chose to do it!

Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).

Wait, what? We overthink things and sling arrows?? You're a brave man Jon, and I for one am glad!!Jon Hodgson wrote:I don't know if I ever mentioned it here, but I almost turned down the job of producing illustrations for The One Ring. You certainly speak for me too! Jon's art grabbed my attention when I first heard about TOR and then C7 did the rest with how the game feels and runs!Majestic wrote:I think I speak for many when I say I'm sure glad you decided to "grasp that nettle", Jon!

Absolutely gorgeous cover, as others have said. You continue to knock them out of the park Mr. Hodgson! This is the kind of artistry that was sorely missing in most of the artwork of the last incarnation of The Lord of the Rings RPG (which relied primarily on stills from the Peter Jackson movies instead of original pieces of art). If for no other reason, I think TOR can be viewed as a collection of artwork that truly captures the feel of Tolkien's Middle-Earth! And no, I am not merely singing your praises just to do so. I look forward to getting a copy of Horse-Lords of Rohan!

Like a good CV, its Jon's art that brought me to the game. Then I stayed for the exceptional quality of the game itself.

You all realize that this thread has been taken off the sticky, which makes room for another sticky thread: The real preview of what is inside the book!!!!!

One game to rule them all: TOR
Re: Horse-lords of Rohan Preview - Cover!
Even though I have more than enough material (HotW, DoM, etc) to satisfy my Wilderland-based campaign for years of real time play, I'm always itching to see the latest preview and get my paws on the latest supplement when it comes out. Problem is, reading them just makes me want to run a new campaign in the region of its focus - aaaargh!
