Yes, that's exactly what I was going for.

Re: Fatigue from Travel
...or maybe the character has to use common sense and drop the gear?
If you're that tired, holding onto it is greed. Which is Shadow waiting to happen.
Realistically, shields and helmets would probably be shed first. Armor would be the next thing to go. One doesn't drop one's weapon unless fatigue alone is equal to or greater then your max endurance.
(And if that happens, you're probably strolling through Mordor with a Ring around your neck...)

If they understand the mechanics would they set themselves up for such an event though? In my game, it's really only the dwarves that wear the heavy armour and war gear and they get Redoubtable which gives them a buffer in this respect too. The other cultures travel light.Indur Dawndeath wrote:I don't want a player who is loaded up with armor and weapons to be unable to travel after one or two failed tests, Weary is bad enough. But I like the idea that players need to get rid of carried treasure, armor and shield, if they get pushed to travel very far!
Is that enough of a bonus for the Woodman character you quoted in a previous post? They have particularly low Body so would your change actually benefit the character that is causing this issue for you?Indur Dawndeath wrote:Perhaps a meaningful limit is...
You can go no further, when:
Encumbrance + Travel Fatigue = Maximum Endurance + Body
Those were my thoughts. Discarding travelling gear should create some significant, life threatening, issues for anyone undertaking a journey except in the shortest of journeys and the most clement weather!Indur Dawndeath wrote:If you leave equipment behind, your Encumbrance will be reduced after a prolonged rest. So you will be able to continue after resting.
If on the other hand you leave your travel equipment behind, then I think the players should suffer even more. Endurance damage for every day without food, water or comfortable rest. Players should fast become miserable as well.

So you will frequently be better off having no training, if you get exhausted?Glorelendil wrote:"Spent: subtract any 1's, 2's, and 3's rolled on Success dice from the total."
A better mechanic would be Roll FD twice and keep the worst, in addition to being Weary.

Longhafted Axe =3 Enc.
Leather corslet =8 Enc.
Cap =2 Enc.
Great Shield =5 Enc.
Not even a secondary weapon, so arguably he could get rid of the cap and change the great shield to just a shield, but in my opinion it is not Heavy armour
But the situation is even worse for him, he is in the middle of Mirkwood, he is wounded, reduced to half endurance and of course Weary. He will most deffinitly fail the remaining Travel checks, so I guess I will have to introduce the "Spent" condition in the next session.

I guess it will not prevent him from possibly becomming "Spent", but it is not my intention to set the limit so high, that no one would reach it, ever.Rich H wrote:

At least he will have a chance to spend Hope on the next Travel test, if he wants. Or the option to drop some equipment.

Ha! Good point. Could have been made without the snark, but still a good point.Indur Dawndeath wrote:So you will frequently be better off having no training, if you get exhausted?Glorelendil wrote:"Spent: subtract any 1's, 2's, and 3's rolled on Success dice from the total."
