Play-by-Forum Darkening of Mirkwood Campaign
Re: Play-by-Forum Darkening of Mirkwood Campaign
Oof. I'm really sorry that you feel that way, Madhaus. I wasn't trying to attack you, and I'm on my phone right now so maybe I came off poorly by my turns of phrase.

Honestly, I hope you give the forum a chance. Zed truly is one of the most helpful people in the game and has contributed significantly to the community. I don't really understand how his comment was construed as bullying rather than helpful advice from an experienced LM of several PbP games.
I think that many regulars to this forum are big enough fans of the game that they have read through quite a bit of the published material. I understand your restrictions for your game. It is yours to run how you wish, but you eliminate many good players who would otherwise have gladly joined.
I hope you find a good group, but please don't go out of your way to disparage a community which is very helpful and encouraging to those who want to find out more about this excellent game.

I am quite certain that Zedturtle didn't mean to be anything but helpful, Madhaus. I am equally certain that there's no need to take such umbrage. Nearly by definition you will get advice, unsolicited for otherwise, on an open forum. I think the bulk of the advice here is quite good. Personally, I think the best trait a player of TOR can have is enthusiasm, with some knowledge of the books being useful, but not absolutely essential.

Since the subject is Play-By-Post (or Forum) games, I think this is actually an excellent example... I always encourage all of my players to read everyone else's posts as generously as possible. What I thought was a bit of self-deprecating humour was misunderstood, to no one's benefit.

I rather think you may all be wasting your breath. I believe he's taken his ball and gone home.

I will not put up with being bullied or attacked when I post something so very simple. Thanks a lot. Anyone who asks me if this forum is a good place to come will get a stern warning they will be attacked immediately.

It surely is the darkening of Mirkwood!
The One Ring Roleplaying Game wrote:The spirits of Elves, Men and Dwarves were embittered and made miserable by the growing darkness of Mirkwood and the ever-present menace of the great Dragon of Erebor.
Each community had become suspicious of its neighbours...

I do hope the OP comes back. This is all a classic example of the limitations of posting and commenting on an open forum; so much is lost due to the lack of non-verbal communication, inflexion of tone, not being familiar with each others' style of posting/commenting, etc. I think Jon H said a while ago in a comment here that "we're all 'shouting through a keyhole' when posting here, so need to be mindful that it is a far from perfect method of communicating", or a statement to that effect; wise words.
