Average AP and XP you award in each session?
Re: Average AP and XP you award in each session?
I think it's important to only really talk about XP and AP gain per adventure; that keeps things relatively consistent between gaming groups as session length is variable. Ideally, we should even just compare the same adventures to get a better idea but I don't think that's particularly feasible so have to limit comparison to short, medium, and long adventures.

Re: Average AP and XP you award in each session?
I think a pretty good experience rate, is at least 2 per session, IF the session was a good 4 to 5 hours, with up to 3 or 4 per session when experiencing hard times for the group, or serious progress has been made, or an awesome feat has been performed. Per adventure ( not adventure phase ) there should be from 3 to 5 for a short one ( 1 session adventure ) , and 6 to 8 for a 2 session adventure, 8 to 10 for a 3 session adventure and so on, in those whereabouts.
The average should get to somewhere between 2,5 to 3 exp per session. With an average of 1,5 adventures per year of 2 sessions per adventure, one should get 10 exp, or around there somewhere. It is hard to calculate since every year is different and so on...
With 15 years of adventuring career if you dont die in the mean time, you reach about 150 experience points. For that you will reach maybe ( Weapon Skill/Valour/Wisdom ) up to 6 in one of them and 3 to 5 in the others ( including secondary weapon skills ). Which makes for an awesome Hero, on par with Glorfindel. I really dont think the players should get better than him...

I have a new take on Advancement Points though. I dont like a mechanic that is based on META gaming attitude.
What im referring to, is that its very easy to spend Hope to succeed in skill rolls you know or are pretty certain of will grant an advancement point in the skill.
Therefore i have changed that rule for my campaign. It goes like this:
1 session adventure, Base 4 Adv Pts.
2 session adventure, Base 7 Adv Pts.
3 session adventure, Base 9 Adv Pts.
4 or more session adventure 10 Adv Pts.
+ ( average of all players Adv Pts/5 ). ( this becomes approximately 2 extra ).
1 or 2 Extra points for epic feats, hard challenges, good roleplaying etc.
All players get the same amount.
This way you avoid players getting envious of each others acquisitions and feelings of mistrust towards GM and also that they spend Hope on Unimportant stuff or things that arent cool.
The downside is that a GOOD roleplayer can feel that his engagement and good roleplaying effort isnt being paid off.
To get advancement points for actions outside of combat:
1st level 12 TN or more.
2ond level 16 TN or more.
3rd level 20 TN...or more...
I have also changed the exp points rule for not being present at the meeting:
You always get 1 less experience point than the rest if you didnt partake, but always at least1 for a session. ( my minimum for a session is 2 remember ).
If you didnt take part in any session pertaning to the current adventure thats been finished, you dont get the extra exerience points for the end of it. If you partake in part of it the GM will award you but less than the others ( always at least 1 exp ).
