DoM & HotW Campaign Maps
Sorry I searched but couldn't find if it was discussed before, I want to ask, when playing the DoM what kind of maps do you give to your players? I want to give them something that has all the important places like Sunstead, Black Tarn, Stonyford etc visible on the map but also something that will take their interest like maybe showing some places from the HotW as plot hooks like the Greydelve for example.

Of Finarfin's children I am the last. But my heart is still proud. What wrong did the golden house of Finarfin do that I should ask the pardon of the Valar, or be content with an isle in the sea whose native land was Aman the Blessed? Here I am mightier.

I think there was a map posted (maybe in the old forums) that had all the places post Tales shown on it. That could be what you want.

I give them the map that came with the core (colour printed, not the original one). Somewhere it says that this are the settlements in Rhovanion that everyone would know.
Then, everytime they visit or discover a new place, we write it there and also draw the paths of their travels (to lower the TN of the Preliminary rolls in case they've already made a certain journey).
What began as an almost empty map, is becoming a chaos.

I think I will do something like this then... A bit ironic to ask for maps when I have a meter long ME map on canvas on my wall haha. No, the ones that are already there are the only ones that I felt were needed. In fact, if I could I'd have erased Rivendell.
It's also fun to play during the game the moment when some NPC tells the characters "here, let me mark the place in your map" and you take the map and a pen and write down "Easterly Inn" near the Elf Path.
In fact, I think that I didn't give them the map until the second adventure, when Glóin hired them for the Marsh Bell and gave them the map.

I generally draw up local regions, if and when required, but I actually rely more on descriptive text to pique my players' interest regarding things like this. For instance, while travelling across Wilderland (and assuming at least one character has some area knowledge) I'll mention areas and locations of interest as part of the descriptions I give them of the lands they are travelling through. That seems to work for my players more than just marking locations on a map and they seem to pick up on them more.

Not wanting to defile my precious full-color map, I printed out a smaller one and mark locations on there. They actually don't use it much but it's helpful to me

Are you using software for that or doing it by hand? Probably already shared your secrets in another thread.
