[UK] This place would be great to play...

... a game of TOR or Hobbit Tales, here:

With a grass roof, circular door and stained-glass windows it could be the perfect spot for a hobbit but this real-life hobbit house, which would make the perfect pad for Bilbo Baggins, is available to rent by the week at Golden Hill Farm on the North Yorkshire Moors.

The cottage, Potts Corner, would be fit for any self-respecting hobbit, complete with a free standing bath and luxurious mattresses, and is just the place to return to after a day spent wandering around the Shire.

The cottage is available to rent by the week at Golden Hill Farm on the North Yorkshire Moors for £650 for three nights or £850 for seven nights for up to six people.

The cosy retreat is the first of seven Tolkien-inspired hideaways to be built by Carol Hopkinson and her partner Karl Wragg as they create an entire village of fantasy houses.

Carol, 35, said: 'We hope that this will be a way for people to step out of the busy reality of their everyday lives and the rat race and into a fantasy world.

'Karl and I love the hobbit house, and have tried to make it as authentic as possible, matching up all the features and fittings with those shown in the films.

'There is nothing better than sitting in the lounge with the round door wide open, watching the sun go down. It really is like being in another world.

'We opened a few months ago and have already had some avid Tolkien fans to stay. That was nerve-wrecking because we knew these people would be the most likely to find fault. But thankfully we have had no complaints just yet.'

Carol and Karl, 30, now have plans to create a whole Shire and build six more hobbit homes on their land where they also rent out a camping site and gypsy caravans.

The pair, who have five children, spent around £100,000 building the hobbit hideaway and received a £15,000 of tourism-related funding from the North York Moors National Park Authority and Redcar and Cleveland Council, plus a start-up loan of £25,000 from Teesside charity Five Lamps.

Plans are in place for a replica of the hobbit watering hole the Green Dragon Inn.

... So, who's up for it?

I'm in! I would fly into the UK for a week-long TOR intensive in a Hobbit-hole on the North Yorkshire moors! :D

I couldn't make it happen until summer of '17, but if Rich is LM'ing for a week-long TOR retreat I will fly there.

Summer '17. I'm marking it in my calendar now.

Yes. This must happen. Here's their website: http://northshire.co.uk/

Who wants to contact them about their schedule?

:D

... Well, if people are genuinely serious then I'd be happy to contact them. Could get their schedule for the next couple of years and aim for maybe doing something in the summer of 2016 and 2017 if there are enough of us.

Thinking further, we could make it a mini-Tolkien get together. I live in Yorkshire (South) so it wouldn't be a hassle for me to bring along all the gaming paraphernalia so that those living further afield could travel light to lessen the impact of any failed Fatigue tests! ;)

We could play TOR (obviously) but I could also bring along Hobbit Tales and some middle-earth boardgames (War in Middle Earth, Middle Earth Quest, and The Battle of Five Armies) if we wanted to mix things up. Then chilling out with the beers at night there's always the LotR radio play and spoken word novels of Tolkien's works that I could drag along too.

So, not holding anyone to anything at the moment but how does the above sound? While we're discussing, I could get in touch with the owners if people are genuinely interested.

My wife says I must go if it happens, but I think mostly she just wants me to take her to the UK.

Hmmm. I'm thinking that 2017 would be better for me. But I'm definitely intrigued. I think we'd exceed the lodgings size very quickly, but sounds like they have other properties.

I am also seriously in for 2017, and I'd prefer to keep the focus on TOR. Perhaps instead of putting all the Loremastering onus on one person, perhaps there could be a few Loremaster volunteers that could run on alternate days or evenings, so everyone gets a chance to play and those who want to run can do so.

Maybe by 2017 they will have built more hobbit homes. Says they have plans to expand.
