Nightmares of Angmar contains a long journey under the nose of Gundabad and across Shadow lands and the Frozen path. As a Loremaster, it is up to you how many Corruption tests to require of your players (even though this is not spelled out in the adventure). If you follow the guidelines in the core rules, you could make them roll 3 per day, but that would be very nasty of you. It takes 24 days to cross the Grey Waste to Carn Dûm!

Interestingly, the adventure points to the description of the Frozen Path detailed in Rivendell which states, "Companions travelling along the Frozen Path must pass a Fear test (TN 16) each day or gain 1 point of Shadow" (p. 52).

Here, I think, is a mistake in the text due to the difference between failing a Fear test and a Corruption test; the first prevents the expenditure of Hope, while the latter causes Shadow gain. The text has it reversed. Personally, I would like for it to be a Fear test preventing Hope expenditure. When coupled with Corruption tests, this trip is as every bit oppressive as you might expect.

SPOILER: When the player-heroes finally reach the Great Bridge of Carn Dûm, they will also have to deal with the “dark shape, like a cloud and yet not a cloud” forcing them into another Fear test TN 18. Failure on this test results in heroes being shaken for an entire day. Given the events to follow, this is a penalty that will especially encumber the companions. What are they to do? Camp overnight in the ruined stronghold to steel themselves? Go back to the Frozen Path? Not very good choices no matter how you slice it.

Great news!

It seems it will be another excellent supplement for this game!

I love and hate these announcements. I hate them because I have to wait to get them until they come out, and I love them because I will be able to get them when they come out. Every time we (my group and I ) get a new book for 1 Ring we feel like we are walking away with solid gold.

A double negative from Jon. Good job that Andrew's the editing guy or the books would be in awful English. Still Jon lives north of the border so I suppose it's excusable.

3 p.m. GMT I think would be 11 a.m. in my neck of the woods (Western New York on Daylight Savings Time). A couple of hours away at this point.
