The side benefit (or I suppose collateral damage, depending on your p.o.v.) is that all these announcements have brought Rich back.

Well if Hodgson is unavailable to do your cover I guess Howe is an acceptable substitute.
Erebor and Dale! Plus we already have Laketown. Oh, this is a great day.
That cover truly does justice to the Chiefest and Greatest of Calmities!

I won't even nit pick about four limbs vs the canonical six. I actually prefer the four limbed variety as John Howe has painted, they make more anatomical sense.

So, when will this come for pre-order? A month from now? Three months? A year?
Or (all together now): Keep an eye on the web site!

Re: Erebor - The Lonely Mountain
All of Tolkien's drawings and illustrations of Smaug show four legs and two wings. The description in the Hobbit just mentions his tail being coiled under and about "all his limbs" which tells us only that he had at least two limbs. I suppose wings count as limbs, so it could be just those. Looking at the cover again I don't actually see any limbs except the wings. What ever others there may be are hidden by the pose.

I think he means the maps. http://mulubinba.typepad.com/.a/6a00d83 ... b18970c-pi or covers http://www.thelandofshadow.com/wp-conte ... 32x300.jpg since in most of the books and maps Smaug is pictured with 4 legs and 2 wings.Glorelendil wrote:"Canonical"?DavetheLost wrote:Well if Hodgson is unavailable to do your cover I guess Howe is an acceptable substitute.
