Background Favoured Skills at 0?

Post by GaladrielsHeels » Fri Mar 25, 2016 4:08 pm

Just a question about favoured skill from the various cultural backgrounds.

Some of the cultures have a skill level 0 for their favoured skill.

Am i missing something here? Surely a favoured skill would have at least 1 rank, probably 2-3?

Thanks All

Favoured skills are either a character's natural talent and/or aptitude for such a thing or accrued experience. So character generation does allow for the option of having a zero rating in such a skill to provide the option of a character having raw (attribute-related) aptitude to such a skill but no training/experience.

My players haven't done this in any character they've created though; always opting for at least one dot in a Favoured Skill.

Nope, a favoured skill can still be zero, since it just means that you use your favoured attribute score when spending Hope. Even with a zero skill you still have a 1-in-12 chance of success and a pretty good chance of succeeding at average tests if you're willing to spend Hope.

From a certain point of view, leaving your favoured skills at zero is a smart choice. They're cheaper to raise with AP rather that your starting experience.

Thanks Rich H & Zedturtle.

Seems that it's not a big deal to start with 0 in a favoured skill after all. I,ll take this to my players when i start the campaign. I know they'll pick up on the 0 rank fav skill!
