[Friday Fun] Gandhi vs Gandalf

Post by Rich H » Fri Mar 25, 2016 4:25 pm

Let's face it, this is going to be a lot more interesting than Batman v Superman! Can you tell your Gandalf from your Gandhi?

I nailed it (9/9) and expect that most of us will but it's interesting that all the quotes could easily be imagined to be said by either.

Have fun!

That was a fun little diversion! I got 8/9, just missed #3.

One of my favorites... It's when Gandalf visits Saruman who then declares himself as the 'Many-Coloured'.
“For I am Saruman the Wise, Saruman Ring-maker, Saruman of Many Colours!'

I looked then and saw that his robes, which had seemed white, were not so, but were woven of all colours, and if he moved they shimmered and changed hue so that the eye was bewildered.

I liked white better,' I said.

White!' he sneered. 'It serves as a beginning. White cloth may be dyed. The white page can be overwritten; and the white light can be broken.'

In which case it is no longer white,' said I. 'And he that breaks a thing to find out what it is has left the path of wisdom.'
Lovely stuff.

I got 9/9.

I'm a little surprised, actually. I sorta expected to do worse, given my having not memorized either all of the LotR or a bunch of Gadhi quotes.

But yeah, it's interesting how many of the quotes could come from either of them.

8/9 - I incorrectly ascribed one Gandhi quote to Gandalf (the one about even great leaders needing to remain open to new wisdom); I know that he has a similar quote (either talking to Merry about Saruman or Pippin about Denethor). It was fun in any case.
Jacob Rodgers, occasional nitwit.
