Let's get the Major Oak:

And the Centre Tree out of the way first:

Yep, the Major Oak is so old and ancient it needs crutches to hold it up.

Some other pictures in and around Sherwood Forest that may evoke some mood.

A long road ahead...

Glad you liked looking at them. I had fun yesterday though my feet are a bit sore today!

Those are great Rich :D
Apologies for slowness in posting, I've been on a few journeys and I'm slowly catching up. Will post more info when I can, Mirdanis :)

Yeah, these are great, Rich! Thanks for sharing them!
Adventure Summaries for my long-running group (currently playing through The Darkening of Mirkwood/Mirkwood Campaign), and the Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).

This thread inspired me to visit the White Horse/Waylands Smithy yesterday. They're quite something & very atmospheric. They can get quite busy (maybe because it was a Bank holiday), but once you get off the Ridgeway and start heading south to Lambourn you're on your own apart from the Skylarks and Montagu's Harriers.

I did of course take with me my copy of LoTR:
"I knew that danger lay ahead, of course; but I did not expect to meet it in our own Shire. Can't a Hobbit walk from the Water to the River in peace?"
"But it is not your own Shire," said Gildor. "Others dwelt here before Hobbits were; and others will dwell here again when Hobbits are no more. The wide world is all about you: you can fence yourselves in, but you cannot for ever fence it out."
"I know - and yet it has always seemed so safe and familiar."

Good words to remember for those who feel that there is no adventure to be found within the Shire.
"Far, far below the deepest delvings of the Dwarves, the world is gnawed by nameless things. Even Sauron knows them not. They are older than he."
