I award my players with Standing increases with other cultures if they have done something particularly heroic or ended an adventure going above and beyond what would be considered a 'successful' adventure.
It seems fine to do this on the fly and not have a specific system for awarding Standing as players have no real reason to spend Treasure to increase their Standing with another faction, especially if you have a diverse group with members from most of the Free Peoples.
It also helps when the group are in an area, and if the all have a bit of Standing with that culture, to facilitate roleplaying within the party when they know people know who they are or if the have a 'don't you know who I am?' moment, or even when telling tales of their exploits or just looking for a place to stay. Even a point of Standing with everyone, and perhaps more for a character of the culture, could mean the difference of having a hayloft or house to stay in as guests to sleeping under the stars, again, because the owner of a farmstead turned away a bunch of ragged looking 'adventurers'.
They would never be allowed to have a Standing higher than their own culture, and even then maybe max out at 2 points, maybe 3 for a character who has spent a lot of years adventuring in the area and made a name for themselves.
Standing increase by Deeds?
Re: Standing increase by Deeds?
This is one area I wish the game had better rules for. One almost needs different Standing rules (for the various Cultures) sometimes, or a way to record at least a bonus for some other groups.
Adventure Summaries for my long-running group (currently playing through The Darkening of Mirkwood/Mirkwood Campaign), and the Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).

I think it was made by Rich, although I might be wrong.

Yep, that's me. My character sheet that I use has a lot of house rule elements on it... Cultural Renown, Vigour, Damage Reduction, Greaves & Vambrace entries, Patron Benefits, Holding Status & Traits, etc.Falenthal wrote:I think it was made by Rich, although I might be wrong.

I'll have to take another look through that.
