Ranger's Foresight

Post by mica » Fri Nov 25, 2016 1:53 pm

How have players/GM's used this skill?

How about activation? Clearly if a player anticipates needing it in the session he wants to activate it as soon as the session starts. I sing a song - it should just so happen to be foreshadowing of things not yet come to pass - there, triggered Foresight (all players agree), no need to even bother rolling dice as this is how traits can be used.

How powerful have GM's made it?
GM announces spider sense tingling or more specific, 'you get a bad feeling about this NPC'?
Or on in reaction to player question, e.g. wondering which of the two paths to take, how does my character feel about each?

Well rangers tend to be honest and the people that play them are of strong moral fibre. I say let your ranger decide how his ability works. Also as they are played by wise people don't assume they will activate at the start of every session it's available. Perhaps you don't trust your ranger because you've been playing with a dark halfling and a traitorous elf ....

I don't have any Rangers at the moment, but in the past I've used it pretty much like other Traits. They're able to use it for automatic success, and sometimes I invoked it for the feels. Just to foreshadow things, and hint at things to come.
Jacob Rodgers, occasional nitwit.

This space intentionally blank.

I can only presume you have never encountered my mate Heaps - it is spelt R-A-N-G-E-R but it is pronounced Munch.

QFT. Assuming Ranger players are honest is a HUGE leap here. Or assuming that rangers as a middle earth culture are honest either. Aragorn is not necessarily a good reference here.

I do think Definitelynotheaps was being a little tongue-in-cheek with his comments, gents! :)
