Monster building?
Monster building?
Are there any rules/guidelines for building your own monsters in TOR?
Re: Monster building?
It's really the same as making any Loremaster character, except you decide on more statistics. Attribute and skill levels are determined by the table on Loremaster's Book p. 26. Whichever skills they're particularly good at are favored. Endurance seems to be chosen arbitrarily on a scale of 10 to 100. Parry seems to be any value no more than two above or below the attribute level. Armour can be compared with actual armor. Hate seems to be any number up to 12 or more, chosen for the ferocity of the adversary. Special abilities are, of course, chosen or created to reflect the creature.
Basically, just pick statistics that seem right when compared with other monsters. There's no balance to worry about here as there is in That Other Game.

Thanks. I was hoping there was more logic behind the stats (i.e. a monster of X power level has stats generated as such . . .).

Can't help with guidelines beyond those suggested in the books for building NPCs etc and using the foes already written up in the LM book and supplements, however Poosticks7 (a poster here) wrote up numerous new foes and you can find the in the link in my signature within the Additional Rules pdf. At the very least these will give you a wider selection and may give you ideas of how to develop your own.fjw70 wrote:Are there any rules/guidelines for building your own monsters in TOR?

Click on the one in my signature, then it's the first item on the list in the first post of that thread - look through the other things as well though as they may be useful (though not for the specific task of designing creatures).

Re: Monster building?
When coming up with the additional foes I didn't follow some magical formula - I compared them to other creatures and tried to come up with variants. I started with orcs first because I was interested in them not just being cloned mooks - variety is the spice of life and all that.
Got a few ideas for some more additions based on the stuff in Heart of the Wild - if I can find the time.
