First significant TOR game

Post by thewisewizard » Sat Jan 11, 2014 12:33 am

So a couple friends stayed with me for the past few days and I had convicted them to try TOR. We ended up playing half of tales from wilderland in one sitting. It was the first time I had run a tor game as more than a one shot game. And it was the most fun I've had in my 12 years of tabletop gaming.

Awesome feedback. Glad to hear you had a great time.

May your future games all be as splendid!

Robert

PS: I believe though that you mean that you convinced them play - not convicted them. (unless they were criminals and their punishment was to play the game with you - which wouldn't speak very highly of the game or being in your game).

Oh my word! How long were you playing for? Sounds like an epic session! :)

It's an awesome game. I'm pretty sure that its my favourite RPG ever created; such a lovely game.

I had the same reaction, question, and conclusion. How in the world did you get through half of Tales from Wilderland in one sitting? You must have been sore and tired! My gaming group didn't even get through three parts of one adventure in 3 hours last night.

The One Ring is my favourite roleplaying game that i've ever played too.

It's touch and go between TOR and Pendragon for me. Both awesome games but TOR shades it because of the contact we get here with Francesco and Jon. Now that's not to say Greg Stafford is active in the Pendragon forums but I'm closer to the TOR designers/publishers and I'm certainly more active.

Yeah, TOR's an amazing game. I really hope it keeps going and we get many more additions to the line.

TOR is definitely one of the better games I've seen come out in a long time, that is for sure. I'm not really a huge fan of Pendragon...I'll play it but it never really had the feel of Arthurian Legend to me. I don't subscribe to the Romantic in Arthurian legend. I like the concept of Arthur being a down and dirty warlord, rather then a shiny king; which the reason I eagerly await...and wait...Keltia.

Congratulations on running (& enjoying) the game!

Most of us agree that ToR rocks - one of the best RPGs out there.

That said, however, I'm also wondering how on earth you plowed through so much of TfW? That's an epic saga in the making, & should probably require multiple sessions to play through.

@Rich, Beran, are you playing Pendragon 5?

I've read your (Rich's) previous posts about it & you seem to enjoy the game immensely.

Thus, I'm considering purchasing it & seeing if I can tweak some of the characters & plots - not the RAW - for ToR (unless it's too much of a stretch).

We played for 8 hour increments and took short breaks between 8 hour sessions over the course of the few day they were here. It probably went so well because the Valar seemed to guide there dice in combat. But I was amazing to be part of middle earth. Even though I was running the game. Though I've never played pendragon I like King Arthur and I love fellowship phase so id probably like it.
