Sauron Rune on Corruption Test
Does rolling a Sauron rune (along with a failed roll) on a corruption test have any other affect beyond gaining temporary Shadow? Do you gain *more* shadow?
Re: Sauron Rune on Corruption Test
On a Corruption test, and for most rolls, rolling the Sauron-rune only results in a 0 for the Feat die. It doesn't give you Shadow points.
The general exceptions are when making a Fatigue test (a failed test with a Sauron-rune triggers a Hazard episode) and when rolling an attack (a failed attack with a Sauron-rune triggers a called shot by an adversary).

Re: Sauron Rune on Corruption Test
In addition to the correct statement from Stormcrow - there are certain tests that explicitly mention an increased gain of shadow (or fatigue etc.) if you fail with a Sauron-rune. But as said that must be mentioned explicitly, like e.g. in the hazard tables in Journeys and Maps.

Re: Sauron Rune on Corruption Test
I am a little late for the party, but I think there was an optional rule for rolling the Sauron rune on corruption test in the Erebor source book; something along the lines he hero would see blighted dreams and visions which would either haunt him (failure) or grant some insight (success), and the source would be dependant on the cause of the corruption test?

Perhaps something to draw on but the consequences for failing a Corruption Hazard during a journey are:PencilBoy99 wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2017 1:27 pmDoes rolling a Sauron rune (along with a failed roll) on a corruption test have any other affect beyond gaining temporary Shadow? Gain 1 Shadow, or 2 Shadow on an EYE.
So, you could potentially rule that other Corruption tests produce the same outcome if you want the EYE to be significant; however if you're going to use the Eye of Mordor rules then such a roll should increase the Eye Awareness (even if the test succeeds) so it may not be necessary.
Some more thoughts on this... These are the guidelines I apply to interpreting results:
The great strength of TOR's rules is they do allow for quite a bit of LM (and player) interpretation and flexibility in how to do (or apply) things; this is one of them - there's no absolute rule as to what to do in the event of an EYE being rolled but it gives each group a chance to come up with their own ideas and apply such ideas at different times/circumstances.SUMMARY OF TEST RESULTS
The following points serve as a guide to what the various levels of success and failure represent:
• Great / Extraordinary Success: task succeeds AND with some additional benefit
• Normal Success: task succeeds
• Success + EYE: task succeeds BUT with some complication
• Failure: task fails
• Failure + EYE: task fails AND some ill event results from the failure or the failed task is spectacularly bad

Re: Sauron Rune on Corruption Test
I would disagree on this, because Eye Awareness only increases after EoS on common skills tests. So never on Wisdom or Valour tests.Rich H wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2017 4:34 pmSo, you could potentially rule that other Corruption tests produce the same outcome if you want the EYE to be significant; however if you're going to use the Eye of Mordor rules then such a roll should increase the Eye Awareness (even if the test succeeds) so it may not be necessary
However, all increases in Shadow adds to the Eye awareness.
Success with an EoS on a corruption test would not increase the Eye...
Cheers

Raise the Eye Awareness by 1 point whenever a die roll made by a player outside of combat produces an
EYE icon, regardless of whether the roll resulted in a success or a failure.
At no point does it say it just relates to Common Skills, just that the die roll is outside of combat so that can include Corruption Tests (and incidentally should exclude the result of Common Skills during combat). Where's the reference to it just stating Common Skills because I'm not seeing it...

Re: Sauron Rune on Corruption Test
I must admit, that I wrote the statement from memory, and now after reading the section again, I don't see a good quote that will back me up.
It comes down to this:
Not +1, if it was failed by an EoS...Whenever a companion gains 1 or more Shadow points outside of combat increase the Eye Awareness level by an Equal amount
Really, I think we just agreed around the table, that it did not seem intended for Corruption tests as well and by that reasoning we defined it as common skills only...

Re: Sauron Rune on Corruption Test
Ah, right. That's understandable, sort of, but I wouldn't do the same.Indur Dawndeath wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2017 9:18 pmReally, I think we just agreed around the table, that it did not seem intended for Corruption tests as well and by that reasoning we defined it as common skills only...
However, don't forget that Common Skills used in combat should not be subject to Eye Awareness! Unless you want to make further changes, that is.
