Where do you think they would be in the timeline of TOR?
Based on Tolkien's 1954 letter, if the Entwives survived the years of the Last Alliance then I would guess that they settled north of Dorwinion early in the Third Age and remained there for most of the age. They might have been destroyed or enslaved after Sauron ramped up his war efforts in the years leading up to the War of the Ring. If enslaved, the Entwives were probably taken to Mordor to work the fields of Nurn.

Of course, putting them north of the Shire would tie nicely to certain rumors being passed around at the Green Dragon.
That very passage might have been what caused Mr. Willis to misremember where Tolkien had placed the Entwives on his father's map.
"Far, far below the deepest delvings of the Dwarves, the world is gnawed by nameless things. Even Sauron knows them not. They are older than he."

I forgot to say this, but I think and adventure to find the Entwives would be really cool. You could even do it epic and make the first couple of adventures about finding and meeting the Ents and then getting the quest to find the Entwives. Follow this up with a need to travel all over middle Earth to find clues and foreshadow a great threat... Someone else is also looking for the Entwives... Someone evil. You could then make your campaign about saving the Entwives... But Tolkien tragic as in order to save them, you must help them hide even farther away so that they can be safe until after the shadow passes...possibly requiring a hero to sacrifice themselves to save them...
This sounds like so much fun. The LM could visit every theory or rumor of where the entwives might be, within Tolkien's writing and among modern scholars' theories leading the company on a wild goose chase, until after several faiked attempts, against all hope, they are found to the satisfaction and awe of the entire company.

I like the idea that not all the Ents are in one spot, an adventurous young ent could have wandered over there in the Second Age and took a liking to it. Or if the woods use to stretch all the way to the old forest and there are hourns there currently there may have been a shepherd that stayed to watch his herd.

I have an old White Dwarf with a MERP adventure in it dealing with the Entwives. I seem to remember it being pretty 'weird' in many way (I recall a land ship being used at some point). Actually, there were three adventures I remember that really were 'out there' in a lot of ways. I believe the other two involved an explanation as to the return of Glorfindel and the other involving the spirit of Ungoliant. I've often had a mind to write them up for TOR as a bit of fun.

Old Man Willow in the Old Forest might indeed be such a huorn.

I think I'd want the adventure to have a few false leads, but in each case clues can be found leading to the next location.

There was a MERP adventure published in the White Dwarf #87 which may serve as inspiration. It is called Taurëfantô and it can be found on Scribd (
