Darkening of Mirkwood Assessment

I'm on drivethrurpg but can't find where to give it a rating. Somebody help me out?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. You go to the page for a product, scroll down, and switch from the "Discussion" tab to the "Reviews" tab. The rating widget should be right at the top.

Well, Aragorn goes out into the Wild in March, TA 2951. He first encounters Gandalf in 2956. From 2957 to 2980, Aragorn undertakes his great journeys and errantries, exploring the South and East of Middle-earth and serving both Rohan and Gondor under an assumed name before reuniting with Arwen in Lothlorien.

Yeah, I can see places where Aragorn's travels can intersect with The Darkening of Mirkwood.

I have one minor problem with The Darkening of Mirkwood that I don't think has been pointed out yet.

Conflict between Viglund and the Beornings is a key element in The Darkening of Mirkwood.

The Viglundings are some of the most interesting additions yet, but we only get a brief mention of the name "Viglund" as the reason why Gandalf didn't want to go see Thranduil about the Lamp of Balthi...

But then again, I should probably be thanking C7 for finishing it up so early...

Do you think that they might be doing a Viglunding sourcebook soon?...

They show up quite a bit. 2952, 2955, 2956, 2959, 2961, 2962 all have events pertaining to the Viglundings. They never come centre-stage, as the campaign focusses on the Woodmen and the Elves for the most part, but they're there (and are the reasons the main force of the Beornings are occupied for most of the campaign). It should be easy enough to expand any of the Viglunding events into fuller adventures if you wish.

Thanks Gareth and can I just also take the opportunity to say how fantastic your material has been for TOR - truly inspiring, detailed, respectful of the material, and displaying a deep understanding of the subject matter. I really admire you as a writer of great RPG supplements - not just TOR but other work (eg, The Laundry). Good luck in the future - I'm going to miss reading your Middle Earth stuff!

I can only agree with Rich on this one. Fingers crossed for the Moria campaign you once hinted about wanting to write, Gareth. The final words of Darkening, with Balin suggesting turning their gaze west to the Halls of Durin, certainly suggests the idea of a new campaign, focused on the Dwarves.

If there's a list where I can sign up for you to write more TOR-stuff I'd be the first one to sign.

Having now read most of the book, I have to say that I especially enjoyed how Beorn's story was handled.

Now I just have to figure out how to involve my group in all these events without railroading them around (none of them being woodmen or elves). The campaign looks great, but doing it justice will require a lot of work!
