Mountains of Mirkwood
Mountains of Mirkwood
Is there much in the way of official material set in the Mountains of Mirkwood? I haven't got my paws on any of the supplements yet, just wondering cause if I do have to stick to the confines of the Wilderlands to get the most out of the official supporting material, that is where I'd send my heroes out on adventure.

Two adventures in Darkening of Mirkwood, I wouldn't recommend it for low level characters because that is where the real monsters like to hide
Re: Mountains of Mirkwood
heh. I really ought to pick that up.

There are also a few pages on it in Heart of the Wild. Synopsis: the Elves took refuge there briefly on their migration from Amon Lanc to Thranduil's I-can't-believe-it's-not-Menegroth Halls, now it's full of a) orcs b) spiders c) more orcs d) a dead vampire slain by Thranduil e) yet more orcs, f) also spiders g) the werewolf h) did we mention spiders i) and orcs j) hey, there's gold and silver in those hills k) goddamn it dwarves whats wrong with you

ha. sounds like the perfect place for my characters to die.
Re: Mountains of Mirkwood
My players are currently headed there for a recon mission on behalf of the Elves to discover why so many goblins are fleeing the mountains (not a good sign I know). Perhaps I'll post some of my background later on.

I have two con scenarios where the Dwarves of the Lonely Mountain send a party to reclaim Moria, or at least a scouting party. The first scenario has run twice and the second is upcoming next week at Conception here in Southern England.

I can only agree on this, are these scenarios something you'd be willing/allowed to share, Hermes?

I'm still getting them into a shape where someone else could make decent sense of them. I do a outline with bullet points and develop from there as I test. I am running them again at UK Games Expo and would hope they'd be in a condition to put them out after that. Bear in mind that they are designed to run in 3-3.5 hours in a one-shot con situation and might not work for an ongoing game even though I linked them together. Think of them as a sort of Marsh Bell for dwarves where I show Encounters, Travel and Combat to new players.
