I recently discovered The One Ring, and I was immediately intrigued. Until now the best RPG I have found to play in Tolkiens Middle Earth is Burning Wheel, a game that I also love very dearly.
Games I love include Burning Wheel Gold (I have most of it's supplments), Numenera (a very recent infatuation), FATE Core, Legend of the 5 Rings, a whle bunch of indie games like Dogs in the Vinyard, Dungeon World and their kind, and certain Classic World of Darkness games like Mage, Changeling and Wraith. I also play Pathfinder, and though I find it a bit complicated, I do enjoy it from time to time (though mostly as a player, it's a bit heavy for me to GM).
I am my groups designated GM, and I like to fly by the seat of my pants, so to speak. I often improvise, for the most part using relationship maps I make that give me all the information I need about NPCs and conflicts. I rarely write or use notes, instead relying on these r-maps that I modify and edit as the game progresses. You won't find any ring binders or extensive notes on world histories and plots in my stash, usually just a few sheets of paper with names, circles and lines and a few brief annotations about who wants what from whom, who is working together and what they feel about each other.
This has been my style for years, and it has always served me well.
The point of all this is to give a general idea of what kind of GM and gamer I am.
Is The One Ring for me?
I know I can talk my group into trying it, and I hope I can talk my gf into letting me spending our money on yet another RPG.
