Fire away! In my opening posts on this thread there are some plastic pre-paints mixed in with those. If they're dry-brushed and based they often come out looking really good to be honest.daddystabz wrote:How about pre-painted figures for those of us that suck/not patient enough to paint.
I need recommendations for the different PC races and some of the creatures.

Re: Miniatures for TOR
I tend to attend Dragonmeet and run games, two years ago it was Laundry, last year TOR, this year it might be World War Cthulhu or another One Ring game. It's a day out and the SO can always shop as it's near decent stores if they are so inclined.
Some TOR Information on my G+ Drive.

Re: Miniatures for TOR
Some Mithrils (and one non-Mithril, but the same sculptor)...
Boromir
a Bard (not the Bard)
Aragorn
Officer from the Cardolanian army (Captain Tardegil for those of the old guard )
Cheers

Re: Miniatures for TOR
Bloomin' 'eck Tolwen, that's brought back memories of gaming in Rotherham Public Library in the mid 80s. Chip Butty and pint of lemonade from the bar, the paper miniatures and floorplans from the MERP box set laid out on the table as we run around Cardolan getting into all kinds of trouble. I miss my old characters from those days - Edrahil the Dunedain Ranger and Frendel Furryfoot, Hobbit Scout. Good times.Tolwen wrote:Officer from the Cardolanian army (Captain Tardegil for those of the old guard )

Tolwen wrote:For human, dwarven and elven characters (as well as "personalities"), the Mithril's are IMO far superior to GW, who are the movie characters (e.g. main characters are sculpted to make them recognizable). Personally I mostly prefer the more realistic proportions and poses of Mithril, but for some minis (especially creatures and monsters) I deem the GW movie designs are much better (e.g. Trolls or Mûmaks).

The dwarves and orcs are very well done, but the heads and faces of the elves and hobbits and some of the men... are more than a bit strange looking. They are almost alien-like.
Don't start arguments over who has a better grasp of hiking and boating or someone might just bring down the banhammer.
Re: Miniatures for TOR
The facial features like noses and ears are often less pronounced and more like real proportions. This make it more difficult to sculpt these small features of course, and that may be the cause for some of the problems you describe. GW minis for example have more exaggerated proportions that make them more detailed looking (and characters from the movies recognizable). The trade-off are more unrealistic proportions in both body parts and tools or weapons.Evening wrote:The dwarves and orcs are very well done, but the heads and faces of the elves and hobbits and some of the men... are more than a bit strange looking. But I agree that in some Mithrils, the faces could have gotten some more features...
