Rich H very nice miniatures! I specially like the guy with the axe and the blue and white shield.

Regarding Dwarves, I've always pictured them more grotesque because:

- They are harder than Men (can carry heavier weight being shorter). This strongly suggests wider bones and bigger muscles.

- They were called the Naugrim (Stunted People) and they were taken as minions od evil in the first encounters with Elves. If they were bearded version of the Elves (perfect human proportions) they probably wouldn't.

Going back to miniatures, best Tolkien Dwarves in my opinion are the old Fantasy Warrior line from Grenadier, even if the sculpts are a bit dated. Upper body and arms are Men size, legs are shorter and they're a bit hunchbacked and stocky.

Really nice minis, all!

For those of us taking a cheaper approach, has anyone ever used paper minis or know of a good source for LOTR/generic fantasy ones? Seems like the option for me, as I just want something decent to put on a battle map to represent stances.

There are some decent ones for The Fantasy Trip... Dark City Games is still producing solos compatible with it, and has several figure sets on their download page. http://www.darkcitygames.com/downloads.php I don't care for colored front/shadow back, myself, but it's a fast and easy way to make a mini.

Originally, The Fantasy Trip used flats. When push comes to shove, that's what I use most.

I'm thinking of actually making up some little tokens for my game. I've taken some of Hodgson's art and put the characters into 1 inch circles so that I can print it out, glue it to chipboard, and cut them out. Hopefully it'll work!

Traditionally (i.e. MERP) they have been seen as a Celt-like people, but I wonder if Pict-like would be more accurate to Tolkien vision. Of course, the we have Peter Jackson take: hairy dirty savages and that's it...

I dunno. I see the Druadain/Woses as being more closely based on the Picts.

Picts and Celts - both hairy farming guys in linen clothes, but naked and painted with woad in battle

I usually just lurk on the forums. We hobbits are quite skilled at the Art of Disappearance after all. I just wanted to say these pictures are fantastic. I love miniatures, particularly because I have neither the skill nor patience necessary to create such beautiful works of art. I hope this thread goes on for quite some time.
