Would it alter your opinion at all to know that Frank Miller's current style evolved out out studying the manga art of Lone Wolf and Cub co-creator Goseki Kojima? The first fruit of that study was Miller's DC graphic novel Ronin, followed by The Dark Knight Returns and its sequel, the Wolverine miniseries written by Chris Claremont, and of course Sin City.Rich H wrote:I think the style is striking and technically excellent but is really jarring for The One Ring. It feels and looks like a very contemporary style which I'd love to see in, for example, a cyberpunk game or something like Mutant Chronicles. If I saw such art in a book for something like TOR it would make me consider my purchase (in a negative way). Artwork is a strange thing for me; something that is technically excellent can still be a turn off if the style doesn't match the subject matter.

Not really. I still like the style and think it's technically excellent; just not suitable for TOR.Otaku-sempai wrote: Would it alter your opinion at all to know that Frank Miller's current style evolved out out studying the manga art of Lone Wolf and Cub co-creator Goseki Kojima? @ Rich H: The one thing I learned in over 20 years of graphic design and illustration was you can't please everyone. The other was have a thick skin ![Smile :)](images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
After the saturation of PJ's vision of Middle Earth I'm finding I enjoy more and more alternative portrayals of the setting.

No need to have a thick skin due to my comments as I really like the style; I think it's very striking and has a contemporary and almost graphic design look to it. It's cool, edgy, and slick. It'd look great in a detective noir-style RPG, Cyberpunk, Mutant Chronicles, Vampire, etc. I saw your website quite a while ago and was impressed by the style and execution. Though, for me artwork, like music and even writing style, has to support and enhance the themes of the subject matter which is why I find your art, applied to TOR, jarring and not very suitable.Giblet Blizzard wrote:@ Rich H: The one thing I learned in over 20 years of graphic design and illustration was you can't please everyone.
