Re: Moria
I'm so happy about Moria!!
But I just feel so bad if this is going to be dual-system thing ...
History of RPGs demonstrate that many dual-system products, quite often, do not become great success.
Think about L5R 2nd edition/d20 books. They helped bring so many new people to L5R...but at the same time they were not as successful as other editions of L5r (as demonstrated by the amount of printed books you can still find...).
Furthermore boxed Sets tend to be more expensive than simple books and, if they are dual-stat, this means that at least some of the customers (me included) will be doubtful about buying a more expensive product with so many pages that one cannot use.

Re: Moria
Nonsense. We are talking Moria from C7. The price is irrelevant. Any gamer unwilling to steal from his kid’s college fund to pay for at least one copy isn’t really a gamer.lucacherstich wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2017 4:50 pm

Re: Moria
My first thought on this was Sean Astin as Samwise ... " now there's an eye opener, and no mistake"... (I haven't checked my film copy so I could easily get this quote wrong). MORIA - not sure if I would want more for the cover or not.
A dual TOR/AiME format? Actually, based on all the products C7 have made for TOR, I have been consistently in awe of the quality and the empathy for the Tolkien/Middle Earth ethos. C7 have been so consistent in getting this right that I have no doubt that this boxed set will be stunning. The TOR system has used a collection of authors and now several different illustrators: if you look through this forum there do not appear to be any deal-breaking products that have people screaming that they will never use the system again: everything to date has been an addition to a great game. The amazing thing (to me) is that it the standard has continued for each product made- are these guys superhuman? 'Magic' was added in Rivendell to universal acclaim; AiME itself came out (admittedly several posts were made that feared the impact of a second system - but so far so good, surely?). So can I express my faith that C7 will do it again? Yes, of course. Relax, it will be B R I L L I A N T .
I have no idea how I would produce Moria (the boxed set) to include both systems. But a map* and the region descriptions would be essentially identical. The history of Moria would be a mixture of canon as quoted from Tolkien and C7's own cool take about the grey areas and the hints left by the professor: that could be common to both.
I don't have AiME at all; but IF (this is only my guess, and it's a pretty wild guess!), IF there were to be two distinct booklets of statistics i.e. (1) characters written in TOR style, Body/Heart/Wits/attributes etc in one booklet and (2) an AiME set with the same characters but fleshed out in DnD style; is that a deal breaker for anyone? These dual booklets would have scenario guidelines or scenario specifics as well (still guessing here, if you've read this far) for ease of reference to the two groups of users.
Frankly, this would be a good way for people like me to find out and get a good look at the AiME system. I remember Decipher's first game set as an introduction to Moria ( I played it with my kids) and later got the Decipher Moria set because of it. Point made.
There is a giant advantage here for all of us - if the designers save time by developing a joint product it will physically arrive sooner!!
* a map with a HARDback please: I know it would be more expensive, but I imagine MORIA to be a centrepiece product for the range - like an Arkenstone in a Dragon's hoard.... sorry, going over the top now!

I have been joking around a lot in this thread, but on a more serious note I think Dunheved said something important: C7 delivers quality. We can stop worrying about how they are going to do dual-system. Express opinions? Sure. But they’ve earned more than angst and hang-wringing.

Re: Moria
Yeah, I’m not worried at all. I’m super exited.
I just thought of another great expansion to Dwarf culture.
What is the next level of Dwarf magic? Surely there must be some ancient lore lost in the library of Durin.
We need to go get it.
Perhaps they knew how to ward against fire or set magic traps around a campsite. Craft hidden doors...
I would really love to see even more options to Dwarven cultures.
Regarding Lorien, then I think we have proof that it will be included. Why else add Lorien elves to the Adventurer companion?
And by that reasoning. The next region guide will be Gondor

One game to rule them all: TOR

Re: Moria
And I am just the opposite. Just using random values here, but if the option is for two almost identical box sets, one for each system, at $50 each, or a single dual-stat box for $60-70, I darn sure want the dual-stat box as the better value. I can say right now that if they do make two separate box sets, I will only buy one of them and that will be the one for the system I am much more likely to find a group to run through it, and that is AiME. TOR is great as a system, but getting new people willing to try it is still difficult.lucacherstich wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2017 4:50 pmFurthermore boxed Sets tend to be more expensive than simple books and, if they are dual-stat, this means that at least some of the customers (me included) will be doubtful about buying a more expensive product with so many pages that one cannot use.
But aside from that, I still expect this to be the only dual-stat product they make simply because it will be a super deluxe box set for something as major as Moria.
Re: Moria
It has been explained elsewhere* that they will keep a lower price/page ratio so to account for the pages devoted to the "other" system.lucacherstich wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2017 4:50 pm(...)

I almost never use trap in my session. I find them boring: "Succeed your perception roll or die".Glorelendil wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2017 11:33 pmI love traps conceptually but rarely if ever are they implemented well. New monsters. 'There are older and fouler things than Orcs in the deep places of the world.'
New powerful abilities of adversaries: Immolation
An epic campaign!!
Lorien region and the misty mountains... or perhaps that is too much??
Cheers
